Recent research on non-contact detection of respiratory movements focuses on Doppler radar technology, which is based on wavelength changes in the phase or frequency domain of the carrier wave when the wave is reflected from the chest wall. However, the influence of noise and blurring due to the reflection of the non-target radio wave included in the measurement data deteriorates the reliability of the data. And since the computational complexity is too high, the spectrum analysis method is not suitable for real-time performance. In this paper, we propose real-time non-contact respiration detection using IR-UWB (Impulse-Radio Ultra Wideband) radar. The proposed scheme uses CSP (Common Spatial Pattern) Filters to find the axis that maximizes the covariance ratio of the inhale and exhale signals and designs a filter that maximizes the difference between the two signals. In order to apply respiration patterns based on each measurer, a dictionary data is collected and a CSP filter is created and applied to the measurement data to spatially separate the inhale and exhale signals. Then, the spatially separated respiration measurement data were classified by binary linear classification through SVM (Support Vector Machine) to determine respiration. The performance of the proposed technique is verified by experimental results. And the frequency spectrum analysis method, which is a conventional non – contact breath detection method, is compared with the proposed method. As a result, the performance of the spectral analysis technique is 85.14% and the proposed method has an accuracy of 91.05%. Therefore, there was a performance improvement of 5.91% compared to the existing method and This can reduce errors due to channel environment and interference from external factors.
