In this paper, a tendon-driven under-actuated robotic hand having neutral posture for efficient grasping is presented. Usually, under-actuated robotic hand are suitable for driving the finger including artificial hand because of its has the ability of adapt to grasping. However, if there is no external force, the posture can not be determined. The proposed robotic hand consists of closed-loop tendon drive system in which an actuator is placed on the base link. This system is suitable for light-weight robotic hand. It also has a structures that restrain the relative angle between links using the s-shaped spring, so that the neutral posture can be specified even when there is no external force. The power transmission based on tendon-driven is driven by a wire or a belt, considering the size and arrangement of the pulleys in designing, it is possible to distribute the torque of the actuator to the respective joints at a constant ratio of the torque using only one actuator. In the case of under-actuated system, the degree of freedom of passive operation can not be directly controlled, but the link of the finger is adapted according to the external force. When the analysis is limited to the case of the gripping, the degree of freedom is higher than that of the actuator. However, in the case where no external force is applied, the number of tendons to specify the position of each finger joint and the link is insufficient, so that the posture of the finger with respect to the length of the specific tendon can not be known. The proposed robotic hand restraints three consecutive links that cannot determine posture using s-shaped spring. So, the posture of the finger at a specific length of the tendon is determined to be an attitude in which the elastic force of the spring does not exist. The initial posture that can be obtained through arrangement and combination of the s-shaped spring is set so as to have the neutral posture for efficient grasping. The tension structure and the characteristics of the torque by the pulley are analyzed, and the torque is analyzed about the restraint by the s-shaped spring. To confirm the grasping characteristics, the sensor using a capacitor is fabricated to analyze the grip in the static equilibrium state. In the case of grasping a circular object, the characteristics of the proposed structure are analyzed and the simulated value and the measured value using the sensor with respect to the external force generated by the contact between the link and the object of each finger are compared.
