According to the installation criteria of the drinking water tank, the water tank should be installed to keep the under maintenance space higher than 60cm from the base-slab level. In this study an assembled water tank support system is proposed, which overcomes some disadvantages inherent in the traditional concrete supporting line pads. The proposed assembled water tank support system is designed to allow height and flatness adjustment to be installed even on the uneven floor surface. The experimental test is performed under both the service load and the lifetime maximum load including the seismic load effects. In the service load test, in which the vertical load of 5 tonf is repeated 5 times, it is found that the maximum deflections are about 0.3mm and these are well recovered when the applied load is removed. In the higher load test, in which the load intensity is about 3 times higher than the expected maximum vertical load including the design seismic load effects, the maximum deflection of 0.8mm is generated, in which the vertical load of 16 tonf is repeated 3 times. When the applied load is removed, however, the most part of the vertical deflection is removed and the residual displacement is as little as 0.1mm, which may be caused by sliding of the friction surface of the high-tension bolt connection. The service load test is repeated after the maximum load tests and the performance of the support system is found to be almost same except the initial residual deflection of 0.1mm. It means the water tank support system may serve after the design level earthquakes. Through the various loading tests it can be concluded that both the safety and the serviceability of the proposed water tank support system may be guaranteed. The stresses resulting from the applied loads are measured in the loading experiments and compared with the analytical results. It is found that both results are well matched and the design procedure based on the FEM models is acceptable.
