The purpose of this study was to analyze Hung Rhapsody No.12, by Franz Liszt to see how he was influenced by Hungarian folk music. Liszt was a composer of Romanticism and pursued a variety of music, away from the formal and stereotypical classicism. Hungarian folk music is also free and has a variety of features so it is well understood that Liszt had interest in Hungarian music. Hungarian folk music and gypsy music have free rhythms and diversly varying beats and forms. It was sought to examine 19 Hungarian Rhapsodies influenced by Hungarian folk music. It was found that there are many common features such as they used Hungarian monophonic system for the melody, that they were influenced by the Hungarian folk dance (Csardas) in the form, that they used musical instruments that Hungarian gypsy musicians played (violin and cimbalom), and they composed music with cadenze characteristics for improvisation. In this paper, Hungarian Rhapsody No. 12 was analyzed in terms of form, melody, rhythm, recurring structure, and compositional characteristics. It was tried to see how the Hungarian folk music was grafted to Hungarian Rhapsody No. 12. In the format structure, the Hungarian Rhapsody No. 12 followed the form of the Hungarian folk song Csardas dancing music. It shows the slow lassan which is the characteristics of Csardas. In the melody, it was found that each of the motives used the Hungarian minor scale and the Hungarian major scale, melancholy melody, folk instruments and improvisational musical elements. In the form of rhythm, a lot of free rhythms were found and many syncopations were used. Liszt used recurring themes mainly to give unity of the music.
