III(대기오염방지 3차 규제) 기준을 적용하고 있다.

Recently, the shipbuilding industry is moving rapidly in response to environmental issues. The International Maritime Organization (IMO) is tightening regulations to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from ship operations. IMO has adopted the Tier III (Air Pollution Prevention Regulation) standard, which enforces emission standards for nitrogen oxide (NOx) and sulfur oxides (SOx) for ships operating in the ECA (Emission Control Area). The Tier III standard is a trend to apply in the shipbuilding industry. When using LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) as a fuel, the generation of CO2 is about 20%, 80% of NOx, 90% of sulfur oxides (SOx), and 99% of particulate matter (PM). In this way, emissions reduction is possible compared to HFO (Heavy fuel oil), and may satisfy the standards of Tier III. In addition, for ships using LNG as fuel, it is possible to operate the ship environmentally without any additional equipment for reducing harmful emissions. In order to cope with such environmental regulations, a major shipyard in Korea has been developing LNG fuel propulsion ships, and the need for fuel tanks for storing and transporting fuel at -196℃ is increasing. Fuel tanks for storing and transporting LNG fuels that are liquefied at cryogenic temperatures of -196°C are produced through the IGC-listed cryogenic steel. Development of welding technology for these new materials has emerged as an important issue. In particular, 9% Ni steel has higher yield and tensile strength than other materials and impact resistance at cryogenic temperature. This is one of the materials that has been popular in recent years. However, 9% nickel steel has a high nickel content and unique magnetization phenomenon, which makes it difficult for conventional flux-cored arc welding. Manual welding is mostly performed using China's low-cost manpower. Therefore, there are drawbacks as domestic shipbuilders are weak in price competitiveness. In order to maintain the technological gap with overseas shipbuilders and secure price competitiveness, large-sized shipyards in Korea are applying cutting-edge welding processes and automating processes. In order to solve these problems and to adopt an automated welding process, various studies are underway. In this technology development process, we also developed a 9% nickel steel welding process by applying laser welding technology with high-energy density. We have carried out a preliminary study through the acquisition. In this study, we optimized the welding process of 9% nickel steel using a laser heat source and verified the superiority of laser welding through mechanical evaluation with conventional flux cored arc welding. Various experiments were carried out by selecting the laser power, welding speed, and the defocusing of the laser as the main process variables. The variation of the bead geometry of the laser weldment was observed for the main parameters. The difference of bead geometry expressed by laser heat source of 9% nickel steel was compared with low carbon steel. The width, height, penetration depth, and area ratio of the weld bead were analyzed. In addition, the relationship between the bead geometry of the weldment and the deformation was analyzed to obtain the basic data on laser welding of 9% nickel steel. Based on the obtained data, we developed a mathematical model that can predict the bead geometry formed according to process variables. For the model development, a model with excellent predictability was chosen selectively using the global regression model, modified global regression model, cluster analysis, and correlation analysis techniques. In addition, the process variables that satisfied the required penetration depth were optimized. For this purpose, a mathematical model for predicting the surface bead height, penetration depth, and area ratio is introduced into various optimization techniques (Gradient-Based Optimization, Generalized-Pattern Search, Particle-Swarm Optimization) using objective function and limit function. The optimum welding process parameters are then presented according to the purpose of the application. Finally, the mechanical properties of 9% nickel steel-welded joints by laser welding process were evaluated. The mechanical properties such as tensile strength, yield strength, impact-absorptivity, and bending strength, which should be considered in the design of welded structures, were evaluated by comparing the reliability of the laser weldment with that of the flux-cored arc weldment to demonstrate the superiority of laser welding of 9% nickel steel. In addition, the fracture characteristics of the welds were analyzed, and the cause of the difference in the mechanical properties was examined from a metallography point of view. This study can be used as the preliminary research data for domestic shipbuilders who are in the process of applying laser welding processes. The study can also be used as a reference to develop the technology for productivity improvement through the laser welding process of cryogenic steel.
