The engineering properties of the corestone ground are composed of relatively strong corestones and weak weathering layers. Since the corestone ground is a complex ground with many different kinds of materials, it is difficult to design the corestone ground and to carry out a civil engineering project. Therefore, in this paper, uniaxial compression tests and triaxial compression tests were carried out according to the volume ratio of the corestones through a laboratory experiment. As a result, uniaxial compressive strength(UCS) in the 10 mm corestone decreased to 30%(saturated condition) and 45%(dry condition) and after that it increase. The strength of the 20 mm corestones (saturated and dry condition) tended to decrease gradually as the volume ratio increased. The young’s modulus increased as the volume ratio increased. When the specimens were broken, the failures of the corestones occurs at the interface between the corestones and the matrices. And also, fracture occurs mainly at the bottom of the corestones. In the triaxial compression tests, as the volume ratio increased for both 10 mm and 20 mm corestones, the internal friction angle tended to increase after 15% in the saturated condition and 30% in the dry condition. Cohesion also showed a tendency to decrease gradually with 20 mm corestones, but the differences was small. 10 mm corestoens tended to decreased, but the cohesion increased after 45%(saturated) and 30%(dry). According to these results, the lower the volume ratio of the corestones, the more the sliding surface is formed between the matrices and the corestones particles, leading to the failure. As the volume ratio of the corestones increases, it is effected on the UCS, young’s modulus, strength parameters(internal friction angle, cohesion) because of the interlocking and tortuosity of the corestone particles. In addition, it is necessary to increase the reliability of the results by carrying out laboratory experiments and numerical analysis programs so as to have representativeness in the base of the corestone grounds, and to study the engineering characteristics of the corestone ground continuously.
