One of the reasons that Big Data promotes the competition of the financial market is that it contributes to resolve information asymmetry in the market. Big Data has provided new business opportunities in all industries such as finance, communications, and distribution. Especially in the financial industry, through the spread of Fintech a newly discovered business model has emerged in the financial market. The current issue of the finance and ICT is Fintech, and the aspect of financial services has rapidly changed in the financial markets along with the development of technologies. Furthermore, Big data which provides economic value by itself is considered one of the important assets of the ‘fourth industrial revolution’. Recently the importance of Data Economy, a new ecosystem based on Big Data, has been emphasized in advanced countries. Considering the current changes towards financial trends, the purpose of this study is to investigate improvements of the inefficient financial services and to study leading financial cases through empirical analysis. Particularly, in the bank-based system, SMEs are excluded from efficient financial support by banks. Therefore the present study identifies problems that small and medium enterprises(SMEs) have and provides solutions for SMEs, which have difficulties to take various financial supports. Asymmetric information is the major contributor to the lack of fund raising of SMEs, which is called 'Thin Filer' to have financing difficulties as a financially alienated group. Under these circumstances, recently Fintech presents new possibilities for SME's financial deficiencies. The evolution of Big Data analysis technology enabled us to find non-financial information that was impossible to use in the past. This non-financial information can be utilized as effective information for credit evaluation of financial institutions. This study is focused on the improvement of credit evaluation for SMEs, which has little quantitative financial information. This study also discovers new index that is considered non-financial informations influencing credit. This study examines empirically how this non-financial information affects to discriminate between bankrupt and non-bankrupt companies. In this study, business and environmental factors related to trade area are presented based on theoretical studies, and the factors can be valid non-financial information for corporate credit evaluation. In addition, based on the theoretical model, the bankruptcy prediction model was constructed. Based on previous studies, this study investigates the possibility of utilizing 'trade area information', which can be a factor affecting sales directly or indirectly, as a non-financial information. The subject of this study is SMEs in the services and retail industries in Seoul, Korea. The 100,540 data were collected from trade area information and corporate overview of SMEs. Classification prediction analysis was conducted : trade area information as independent variable, and bankruptcy as a dependent variable. SAS version 9.4 and R version 3.1.3 were used to analyze the data of this study. The accuracy of the model was 74.31% in discriminant analysis, the artificial neural network model was 89.77%, and the decision tree model was 89.78%. It was verified that the trade area information is significant to classify and predict bankruptcy. In addition, it was found that machine learning analysis was more effective than traditional discriminant analysis. In conclusion, it can be said that it is possible to utilize 'trade area information' as evaluation indicators in corporate credit evaluation. The major findings of the study are as follows. Trade area information is proposed to analysis the effect credit evaluation of SMEs. Furthermore, this study is differentiated from the previous trading area researches through traditional paper-and-pencil questionnaires and statistical materials. The implication of this study is that the more sophisticated and outstanding credit evaluation model can be developed when trade area information is added to conventional variables in Big Data analysis, such as finance, credit and loans. This verified that credit evaluation for 'Thin Filer' is available. This shows the possibility to subdivide credit evaluation models for SMEs in the future. In other words, it can be concluded that credit evaluation can be performed of ‘Thin Filer’, which is excluded from the traditional credit evaluation. Therefore, Fintech can be expected to help SMEs to make economic progress and employment extension through increasing financial accessibility and lowering costs. It is expected that financial institutions will be able to discover more types of non-financial information and utilize them for credit evaluation by Fintech services and Big data analysis. Furthermore, new Fintech solutions can be provided to SMEs to expand finance market.
