DNA telomere length, NK-cell

This study examines the influence of chameacyparis obtusa oil and manual lymph drainage (MLD) on mental health in 30´s carrer women. The participants in this study were selected through the distribution of 150 copies of a survey on stress, depression, and anxiety among female working professionals residing in metropolitan areas, and from the 34 participants who ranked in the top 30%, 11 subjects were assigned to the chameacyparis obtusa oil lymphatic drainage (CLG) group, 11 subjects to the lymphatic drainage group (LG), and 12 subjects to the control group (CG), Over 8 weeks, the participants were given 16 sessions of MLD, twice a week, targeting the neck, abdomen, and lower extremity. The following items were measured: BMI, total weight without fat, edema index, serum cortisol, CRP, MDA, and SOD, and were analyzed at 4 time points: before the sessions, after the sessions, 4 weeks post-session, and 8 weeks post-session. DNA telomere length and NK-cell activation were analyzed twice, before the sessions and 8 weeks after the sessions.
The results of the 8-week MLD are as follows.
1. In-body results
1) There were no correlations between the groups and treatment timings in terms of BMI and total weight without fat. 2) The edema index decreased for the CLG and LG, as indicated by the post hoc test between groups and treatment timings.
2. Changes to blood indicators 1) Cortisol levels dropped after treatment compared to pre-treatment. 2) There were no correlations between groups and treatment timings in terms of CRP. 3) Post-hoc analysis of groups and treatment timings indicated that MDA was lower in the CLG and LG compared to the CG: post hoc analysis indicated that MDA was lower after the sessions and 4 weeks after treatment, compared to pre-treatment. 4) There were no correlations between groups and treatment timings in terms of SOD. 5) There were no correlations between groups and treatment timings in terms of DNA telomere length and NK-cell activation.
The above results indicate that MLD was effective for edema and MDA, which differed between groups. The participants were female working professionals in their 30s, who experience a wide variety of environmental, physical, and psychological changes, and this study applied therapy using chameacyparis obtusa oil, known for its antioxidant properties, resulting in lower MDA levels and edema indices by activating lymph circulation. This study has certain limitations: a homogeneity test of blood indicators between groups was not conducted: the levels of eating habits, lifestyle habits, and physical activity were not controlled; and the number of study participants was low, making it difficult to generalize the effects of chameacyparis obtusa oil and MLD. However, further research is required to scientifically verify the antioxidizing effects by broadening the study sample beyond females in their 30s, controlling the concentration of the chameacyparis obtusa oil, and providing scientific backing for improved mental health, as well as to examine the influence of MLD on pain and edema alleviation by diversifying the therapy intervals, targeted body areas, and number of sessions, and expanding therapy recipients to include other patients and children.
