This dissertation provides a new theoretical reflectometry method using time-frequency signal processing. The proposed reflectometry approaches are applied to various types of cable systems in order to verify the feasibility and applicability of the proposed theory. Conventional reflectometry methods are not directly applicable for the assessment of the fault regardless of the distance. Since it is dicult to distinguish the actual fault from various reflected signal including a junction, cable ends and multiple reflections. In particular, applying reflectometry to a branched network cable complicates the locations of faults because reflected signals from various causes are measured altogether. Therefore, in this dissertation, application of time-frequency domain reflectometry is discussed to estimate the location and assess the degree of a localized fault under multiple reflections without cable modeling but through image classification in the time-frequency domain using convolutional neural network techniques and reflected signal estimation.
