Before analyzing Bach’s Suite No. 5 (BWV 816) in the French Suites, the present study reviews previous studies and the literatures on the history of suites, the characteristics of each movement, and the features of Bach’s suites(Chapter 2), and analyzes the musical form, harmony, and composition of Bach’s Suite No. 5 (BWV 816) in a close and multi-faceted way from this literature review (Chapter 3). In particular, Chapter 3 looks into how these seven movements are put together as one suite, resulting in the musical coherence of the entire piece. In conclusion, all seven movements are in G major and binary form (simple binary form and rounded binary form); in addition, they which appear the consecutive 10th at the beginning measure of the first movement Allemande, develop in each movement at foreground and background levels, it achieves musical coherence.
