The purpose of the study was to identify homosexuals’s minority stress-coping in Korea and to confirm the characteristics and differences according to the types. By using Q methodology, the study was carried out as follows. Firstly, the Q population is film, novel, precedent research and formulated though interviews with three homosexual. Secondly, a total of 42 statements that were considered to represent the Q population were chosen to comprise the Q sample. Thirdly, thirty homosexual were selected as P samples. Fourth, Through Q-sort with a forced distribution system, the P sample had to decide whether they agree or disagree on Q-samples. The analyze was done by PC-QUANL program and four Q factor were delineated. 4 defined types from researches are as follows, ‘Defender of human right’, “‘Mutual-supporter’, ‘Bystander’, and ‘Considerer’. Homosexuals of the first type, “Defender of human right”, perceive discrimination towards sexual orientation as stressors and are aggressively involved in protest against it. The second type homosexuals put great emphasis on mutual supports from forming social consensus between homosexuals. “Bystander” as the third type considers protest as useless action and do not take part in the situation. Lastly, “Considerer” sets a high value on relationships between families and friends. They carefully disclose their sexual orientation to keep positive friendship. From the research results, the type of coping with minority stress of homosexuals were identified. The purpose of the study is to provide the basis of nursing interventions to improve homosexuals’ mental health from apprehending and developing newly defined types of stress coping mechanisms among homosexuals.
