In this paper, the sound absorption performance was investigated for nanoweb and 4 types of microfiber nonwovens which have various specifications. The sound absorption coefficient for the different order of stacking and arrangement of nanoweb were measured by the 0~5000 Hzfrequency band. Porosity, fineness, thickness, density, and tortousity of the pores are considered as main factors which affect the sound absorption properties of sound absorbing materials. Among them, the porosity of nanoweb is main factor which gives a good absorption performance. Nanoweb is a nonwoven fiber which has a diameter of hundreds to nanometer and has high surface areal density due to high fiber content per unit weight and a large number of pores. This characteristic of nanoweb promotes the sound absorption performance which means the amount of energy conversion from sound to heat dissipation. The sound absorption behavior is different according to the frequency of low and high bands. It is shown that the thickness of the sound absorbing material acts as an important factor for sound absorption coefficient in the low frequency band. In the high frequency band, the porosity of materials greatly influences to the sound absorption performance. In addition, when the facing material to the sound source is changed, it was revealed that the absorption coefficient was improved in the case of the arrangement of nanofiber webs on the rear surface.
