The voice coil of a speaker is an important part that determines the overall performance and durability of the speaker, and sound is generated by the up and down motion of the voice coil by the electrical input signal, where heat is generated by the self-contained electrical resistance, resulting in an increase in the temperature of the voice coil and surrounding components. In particular, permanent magnets have the characteristics of decreasing magnetic flux density as the temperature increases, which causes the output of the speakers to decrease, reduce durability, and shorten life span. To address this, it is necessary to reduce the temperature of the voice coil and permanent magnet and to improve the magnetic flux density of the permanent magnet in order to improve the speaker's performance. Therefore, this study experimentally and numerically analyzed the improvement in thermal and acoustic performance of line array speakers according to application of heatsinks and additional magnets. Chapter 2 showed that commercial program ANSYS ver 18.1 CFX was used to predict the temperature characteristics of the woofer speaker and the thermal performance of the heatsink, and that the ANSYS ver 18.1 Harmonic response was used to determine the acoustic characteristics of the speaker, and the results of the experimental study were verified within 3.85% error. Chapter 3 proposed various woofer speaker models as a combination of heat-sink and auxiliary magnets for thermal effect and sound pressure improvement, while the permanent magnet temperature and maximum sound pressure level of the woofer speaker combined with neodymium auxiliary magnets and heatsinks were improved by 16.31% and 3.45% respectively compared to the existing woofer speakers. Chapter 4 analysed the thermal and acoustic performance of line array speakers applied with the optimal woofer speaker model in Chapter 3, and improved the temperature characteristics by 8.2% and the maximum sound pressure level by 3.16%. In conclusion, it was confirmed that when the combination of heatsink and additional magnets was applied, the temperature of the voice coil and permanent magnet in the speaker were reduced to improve durability and lifespan, as well as improve the acoustic performance.
