In this study, eco-friendly concrete was developed in order to preserve sustainable environment through mitigation of greenhouse gas(GHG) emissions and to establish a resource recycling system utilization industrial by-products in massive quantities. Specifically, high volume mineral admixture(HVMA) concrete was developed, which is replaced the most part of the unit weight of cement with a large amount of blast furnace slag powder and fly ash. And inorganic stimulants were used as well in the form of industrial by-products such as circulating fluidized bed combustion ash, etc. For the HVMA concrete that used a large amount of admixture, the optimal mix proportion was derived by using the proper amount of anhydrous gypsum and circulating fluidized bed combustion ash as the inorganic stimulant. For normal strength HVMA concrete, the fluidity was better than conventional concrete through the suitable mix design for HVMA binder. So it has could be possible to get the equivalent level of fluidity by using lower amount of chemical admixture. Although only 10% cement was used for HVMA binders, it was achieved excellent mechanical properties. Because the inorganic stimulants stimulated the latent hydraulic property of blast furnace slag powder and the Pozzolanic reaction of fly ash. In addition, the durability was enhanced in terms of chloride attack resistibility through chloride binding, and the carbonization resistance would be enhanced through enough curing. In case of high strength HVMA concrete, for HVMAC mixture, it could has obtained high strength which is over 60MPa of compressive strength after 28 day by stimulating the latent hydraulic property of admixtures through inorganic stimulants. From the early age, it has excellent chloride attack resistibility through densification of microstructure and chloride binding and has excellent freeze-thawing resistance as well. Moreover, it has excellent resistance to chemical erosion caused by sulfuric acid and sulfates. Because it has lower amount of C3A and calcium hydroxide which is produced by a large amount of mineral admixture. As result of lifetime prediction, for HVMA concrete, predicted chloride concentration at the reinforcement location was lower than the critical chloride content by design in both case of normal- and high strength. Thus, it was predicted that HVMA concrete could obtain lifetime over 100 years at least. The results of environmental impact assessment showed that the HVMA concrete could help reduce CO2 emissions. Specifically, the HVMA concrete helped reduce CO2 emissions by 65.7∼66.6% compared to PL in normal strength and by 80.1% compared to NC in high strength. The HVMA concrete, developed in this study, was found to be more cost-effective than conventional concrete and is expected to find wide-ranging applications to offshore structures and mass concrete based on its excellent mechanical performance and durability. Furthermore, the HVMA concrete, a low-carbon emission material useful for greenhouse gas(GHG) reduction as found in the environmental impact assessment, would be also effective in applying eco-friendly structures such as green building certification, etc.
