This study involves a comparative analysis of the results of a survey regarding domestic and foreign nail tip products and their sizes to improve the dimensional fitness of nail tip products by the type of fingernail among adult women. The study subjects comprised 147 adult women aged from their 20s to 40s living in Gwangju and Jeollanam-do who had no fingernail-related diseases. Direct measurements were made using digital Vernier calipers (BD 500-150) and curvature gauges (radius gauge 186-105), and data on fingernail shapes were collected through indirect measurements using photography to reveal the shape characteristics of each fingernail types. The data were analyzed using SPSS 20.0, and technical statistics, factor analysis, cluster analysis, ANOVA, and the Duncan test were applied to classify the types of fingernails. Then, 52 subjects classified in this study by nail type performed the wearing evaluation of the nail tip product in order to provide basic data to improve the suitability of nail tip products by comparing and verifying suitable product lakes for each fingernail type. The results of this study were as follows. First, as the results of the domestic and foreign nail tip product survey and size analysis for each brand show a difference in how the product lake is marked, it was deemed necessary to set criteria for the dimensional system of the product lake. Comparison of the measurement data by lake size 0 to 11 for domestic and foreign nail tip products found significant differences in width and thickness items for a total of six product sizes (Nos. 0, 2, 4, 6, 7, and 9), since the size of foreign nail tip products is wider and thicker than domestic nail tip products except for 0 lake size. Thus, choosing a lake of the same size between domestic and foreign products is considered problematic for suitability and wearability. Second, to identify the features of fingernail types by age, comparison of the mean actual measurements showed significant differences for each item; those in their 20s had narrow fingernails and high curvature of cuticle lines, those in their 30s medium fingernails and low curvature of cuticle lines, and people in their 40s had the widest fingernails and the lowest curvature of the cuticle line. Therefore, with increasing age, the fingernails widen and the cuticle line becomes flat type. Third, factorial analysis of the data measured by the researcher to classify fingernails types in adult women extracted five factors for the thumbnail; four factors each for the index nail, middle nail, and little nail; and three for the ring nail. Cluster analysis results for the extracted factors classified each nail into three types. The features of each type were examined based on the width, height, and angle items of the fingernails when wearing nail tips. Type 1 is a square form with wide fingernails, low height, flat, and low curvature of the cuticle line. Type 2 is a U-round shape with narrow fingernails, high height, convex, and the highest curvature of the cuticle line. Type 3 is a round form in which the fingernails are wide, high in height, convex, and with medium curvature of the cuticle line. Fourth, the result of the nail tip product wear evaluation for each type of fingernail, which was included in the utility range of 10% or more found for, thumb nails was the size of the Product A was 0 to 1 lakes; the Product B, was 1 to 2 lakes; for index nails, was size of the 5 to 6 lakes of for the Product A and; the Product B was size 4 to 6 lakes; for middle nails, was size of the Product A 3 and 5 lakes; for the Product B was size 3, 5, and 6 lakes; for ring nails, was the size of the Product A 6 to 7 lakes; for the Product B was size 6 to 8 lakes; for little nails was size of the Product A 9 to 11 lakes; for the Product B and was size 11 lakes. In both brands, the thumbnails and small nails have separate lake ranges, while index nails, middle nails, and ring nails are relatively wide and are designed to be applied multiple times, intersecting the size of the lake. Also, Product A allows product lakes 0 to 1 and 3 to 11 to be applied to all three types of fingernails. In comparison, size 2 does not apply to fingernails, so it is necessary to remove the product’s lake or adjust the 1–3 interval to develop a new lake suitable for these nail types. Although all of Product B’s lakes were applicable, it would be necessary to develop a new size no smaller than 11 by adjusting the interval between 10 and 11, which showed a large gap in size because the narrowest lake size 11 corresponds to size 9 of Product A. We expect these results to be of use to companies developing fingernail tip shapes by helping to determine the shape of the nail tip product and product lake. and to serve as technical and academic reference material that had not been produced before due to the short and fast growth of the field.
