In this study, by restoring the extincted traditional Dochim processing technology, it was intended to secure high quality traditional paper manufacturing technology for preservation, restoration and reproduction of paper-related relics and to manufacture Hanji that corresponded to the actual relics. The extincted traditional Dochim method used Hwangchokgyu (Hibiscus manihot root extractives) and rice flour, and today's method is using Mul-Dochim(technique of spraying water on the Hanji). Both methods were compared and analyzed. To improve Dochim processing, it was performed by mixing rice flour and Hwangchokgyu mucilage, and research was conducted to analyze the possibility of using Dochim paper. After the application of rice flour at Dochim processing, it was possible to obtain higher density paper than before with higher basis weight and lower thickness. In the weathering analysis, the rice flour treatment showed higher brightness and lower yellowness than base paper, Mul-Dochim, and Hwangchokgyu processing. In the analysis of physical properties, glutinous rice flour increased smoothness, reduced air permeability, and reduced tensile strength than those of nonglutinous rice flour. As a result of ink spreading measurement, glutinous rice flour showed a more regular spread of ink and smaller area and longer length spreading than those of nonglutinous rice flour. As a result of physical properties and ink spreading measurement, it was considered that suitable raw material for the high quality Hanji was processed with glutinous rice flour. When treatment with rice flour and Hwangchokgyu mucilage together it showed lower physical properties, ink spreading properties than when processed with rice flour only, but showed better properties than base paper, Mul-Dochim and Hwangchokgyu. In the case of the two times of Dochim processing, the physical properties and ink spreading improvement were lowered than those of single Dochim processing by the destruction of the Dochim layer formed by the single Dochim processing and the detachment of the coating material. Therefore, it was judged that single time Dochim processing could make high-quality Hanji.
