This study attempts to analyze the factors affecting the hairstyle styling cycle and hairstyle change. We selected regular customers from 20 to 65 years old who visited 5 beauty salons in some areas of Seoul for a total of 6 months from January to June 2020, and a total of 175 people who met the selection criteria were followed and analyzed.
1) General characteristics of the research subject
The research subjects are as follows. Men are 20%(35 people) and women are 60%(140 people). The most common age distribution was from 40s to 60s with a total of 93.1%(153 people). The number of people with jobs was 61.7%(108 people), and the economic level was 33.1%(58 people) in the upper class and 66.9%(117 people) in the middle class. When checking the job, 38.3%(67 people) were housewives.
2) Hair salon visit and hairstyle
A total of 5 visits to the beauty salon were set for 6 months. All 175 people visited the 1st and 2nd session, but 98.3%(172 people) in the 3rd round, 60.0%(105 people) in the 4th round, and 37.1%(65 people) in the 5th round. In the first hairstyle, perm 57.7%(101 people), cut 32.0%(56 people), and upstyle 10.3%(18 people). In the second round, the number of perm increased by 12.9%(13 people), but the cut and upstyle decreased by 16.1%(9 people) and 22.2%(4 people), respectively. In the third round, the perm decreased by 16.7%(19 people), the cut did not change, and the upstyle increased by 14.3%(16 people). In the 4th round, firms decreased by 38.9%(37 people), cuts decreased by 29.8%(14 people) and upstyles decreased by 53.3%(16 people). In the 5th round, perm decreased by 34.5%(20 people), cut by 18.2%(6 people), and perm decreased by 100%.
3) styling cycle for each hairstyle
During the observation period, the styling cycle for each hairstyle was the shortest at 56.2(±11.61) days. In addition, when the significance was confirmed, only the 1-2 styling cycle(F=31.577. P<.05) and the 3-4 styling cycle(T=6.840, P<.05) showed statistically significant differences.
4) Visit by observation period and average visit period
During the 1 month observation period, a total of 38 people(21.9%) of the registrants visited, 65.8%(25 people) of the farm, 31.6%(12 people) of the cut, 2.6%(1 person) of the upstyle, and the average visit duration was 26.5(±2.49) days. In the 2nd month, 85.1%(149 people) visited, 67.8%(101 people) of perm, 22.8%(34 people) of cut, 9.4%(14 people) of upstyle visited, and the average duration of the visit was 36.5(±9.35) days. In the 3rd month, 175 (100%) of all registrants visited, 57.5%(101 people) for perm, 32.0%(56 people) for cut, 10.3%(18 people) for upstyle, and the average duration of the visit was 41.9(±15.55) days was consumed.
5) Change type and change period for each hairstyle
During the observation period, there were a total of 39 hairstyles that changed from the primary hairstyle. Checking the data, the perm changed only by cut, and the total number of changes was 13(33.3%), and the average change period was 29.0(±.00) days. All cuts were changed to perm, and the total number of changes was 22(56.4%), and the average change period was 73.5(±.91) days. All upstyles were changed to perm, the number of changes was 4 cases(10.3%), and the average change period was 69(±.00) days.
6) Survival analysis by hairstyle
During the observation period, the survival rate for each hairstyle was checked. In the case of perm, 48.6(95% CI: 46.95, 50.32), the cut was 73.4(95%, CI: 73.07, 73.83), and the upstyle was 89.0(95% CI: 66.87, 69.00). As a result of the log-rank test, there was a significant difference in the survival rate for each hairstyle by perm and cut as x²=25.000(p=.000), and there was no significant difference between perm and up as x²=2.804(p=.094).
7) Analysis of factors affecting the survival rate for each hairstyle
In order to find the risk factors influencing the change in hairstyle, we analyzed using the Cox proportional risk model with sex, age group, occupation, economic status, and hairstyle as co-variables, but there was no significant influence.
8) Reasons for change of hairstyle according to general characteristics
In the case of 39 people who changed their hairstyle, they responded in three ways: to look attractive, to make their activities easier, and to take an interview. Those who chose perm replied that they wanted to look attractive, those who chose cut to make their activities easier, and those who chose upstyle to take an interview. From the above research results, the following conclusions were obtained. The first was that the hair style of the study subjects had the most perm, and the second hair style styling cycle was that the upstyle was the longest and the perm was the shortest. Third, the hairstyle changed the most to perm. Fourth, the survival rate of upstyle was the longest and that of the perm was the shortest, and fifth, there were no significant variables affecting the survival rate. Lastly, the reason for the change of hairstyle was to make the perm look attractive, the cut to make the activity easier, and the upstyle to be interviewed.
