In order to meet increased demand for high-performance batteries, we conducted research on the development of lead tap manufacturing process to solve unstable elements of lead tabs and improve adhesion strength. In the primary bonding process of manufacturing process, the holes of the absorber appear only at both ends in the process of attaching the insulating film to the metal. As the shape of the hole does not exist in the center of the surface of the insulating film, the source of air bubbles has been removed. By introducing a time delay to the Push process of the absorber, the heat from the heater block does not affect the insulting film. Hence, the air bubbles are blocked when heat is conducted to the insulating film. It was confirmed that the air bubble generation rate decreased from 2.63% to 0.79% after improvement. In the bonding of lead tab secondary process, the upper and lower gap of the heater block is set to 0.3mm to increase the adhesion strength. With such modification, the heat transfer increased by making metal contact with the heater block. To prevent the failure of damage and scratch caused by metal on the surface of the heater block, the hater block is attached with the heat resistant tape that does not detached at high temperature. The average adhesive strength was confirmed to increase from 1.81N/mm to 2.03N/mm after improvement. With increased heat transfer the required time of the secondary bonding processes are reduced, and the manufacturing time of the lead tab is reduced which leads to productivity improvement by 1.5 times. Since the development of the lead-tap manufacturing process, the annual air bubble chance rate was reduced from approximately 3.0% to 09%. In addition, the average strength of adhesion by year increased form 1.8N/mm to 2.04N/mm which contributed to productivity improvement.
