The purpose of this study is to explore the meaning of objet function and symbolism by paying attention to the expansion and positive effects of objet functions in dance works. It is interpreted that an objet has the meaning of any object, and becomes symbolic as it has a new meaning by a certain subject, including a simple visual role as an insignificant one. This study attempts to perceive the use of objet and its effectiveness through analysis of objet that appears in Marie Chouinard's work, who actively utilizes objet and makes sensational direction through experimental challenges and attempts. To this end, the work "Orpheus and Eurydice" was mainly analyzed, and for detailed analysis, the role and meaning of objet in dance works were reviewed through literature and visual data at the premiere in 2008. Through this, the perception of the objet in the dance work and the symbolism of the objet in the work "Orpheus and Eurydice" were examined. In the work "Orpheus and Eurydice", various objets such as blue light boxes, gold bells, gold chests (strings), microphones, white cloth, black bundles of hair, male genital models, high heels, snakes, large flutes, and blue objects in the mouth were used. As a result, it has been reinterpreted as a secondary meaning and has a symbolism, which is presented as a concept of expansion in communication between the choreographer and the audience while playing a role of assisting in various productions such as maximizing visual image, stimulating hearing, expanding synesthesia, and delivering the theme of the work. This study is meaningful in that the use of objets in the dance area leads to positive effects in the study of the conception and symbolism of objet through analysis and consideration of the work of "Orpheus and Eurydice". It also suggests that there are infinite possibilities and values in that various choreographers give new meanings to various objets in their dance works.
