We are living a ‘new normal’ life in an ‘Un-tact society’ where it is essential to refrain from outside activities and wear masks due to the everydayization of "social distance" caused by COVID-19. Many domestic and foreign companies have mixed opinions on contactless work for selected organizations to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The purpose of this study is to compare the mutual perception of contactless work experience between workers and managers to consider the direction in which effective contactless work for workers and managers will proceed. First, Research I compared mutual recognition by conducting in-depth interviews with 18 workers and 14 managers who experienced contactless work after a prior study of contactless work literature. All respondents pointed out the ‘difficulties in communication’ the most due to the difficulties of contactless work. As we understand through prior research, the familiar offline office-based communication work form can act as a cause of work burden in contactless work. Although possible communication in face-to-face communication became replaceable through the IT system, the delivery methods such as document and video transmission were difficult for workers and managers. In addition, the lack of organizational immersion, the ambiguity of work-life boundaries, negative perception of contactless work, and poor performance were pointed out as problems. Second, Research II applied agreement, congruency, and accuracy by the Co-orientation model to 264 workers and 141 managers with contactless work experience to verify differences in perception of contactless work. From a comprehensive perspective, the results of Study II show that workers are more positive about contactless work than managers, while managers are more negatively aware of it than workers, which is considered to be a burden on workers. Judging from the results of Research I and Research II, if the company's workers and managers have the same perception of contactless work as participants in this study, not many companies will actively accept contactless work even after the COVID-19 crisis ends. This is because managers' perception of contactless work is negative compared to workers. Although the results of this study show that workers and managers are generally engaged in contactless work with similar orientations, the results of these analyses have significant implications as the high and low recognition of some items is statistically significant. In other words, workers and managers of contactless work should strive to minimize the perceived negative factors that may arise from the introduction of contactless work and to narrow the gap in the Co-orientation by increasing the positive effects. Even if the Covid-19 situation calms down, organizations that want to maintain or spread contactless work need technical and management changes that can improve their perception of contactless work. First, this study has an academic implication in that the literature study first attempted to analyze the differences in mutual perception between workers and managers in a multi-dimensional manner through case analysis and quantitative analysis of factors presented in issues related to contactless work in the country. Second, the practical implications are to prepare clear guidelines on personnel management regulations for contactless work, suggesting enhanced support for contactless work environments by blocking negative perceived factors and supplementing and supporting contactless work IT system infrastructure for communication.
