In this study, substances with heat shielding characteristics in paint were added to manufacture inorganic heat shielding materials with high solar reflectivity characteristics to improve reflectivity. Using a heat shielding material, thermal energy absorbed by the exterior wall of the building is reduced based on visible light and infrared reflection characteristics of solar heat, and increasing temperature in the building can be suppressed. Titanium dioxide is one of the representative inorganic heat shielding materials and used as a heat shielding paint material due to its excellent reflection characteristics. In this study, a study was conducted to improved from the conventional solar reflection characteristics of titanium dioxide by controlling the structure and shape of titanium dioxide. First, a micron-sized rutile titanium dioxide which has a high refractive index was manufactured, and correlation between particle size and reflectivity was analyzed. An additive copolymer was utilized as a template for producing micron-sized particles, and the copolymer can be easily produced by controlling the concentration of the copolymer. As the concentration of the copolymer increased, the crystal phase changed from anatase to a rutile, and the shape changed from nanoparticles to older micro particles. A reflectance value tends to increase as micron-sized particles are generated, and it was confirmed that the highest reflectance value appears, especially when nanoparticles and micron particles are both present. A reflectance characteristic was maximized based on a refractive difference between a low refractive index and a high refractive index by multilayered coating of Si and Ti layers on spherical micro-sized titanium dioxide particles synthesized by an additive copolymer. Reflection characteristics associated with the refraction of light at the interface are increased by coating substances having different refractive indices, and the titanium dioxide heat shielding material manufactured by this study is expected to be useful for mitigating the heat island phenomenon.
