This study sought to define the influences of parents self-differentiation with accompaniment of their children, perceived by child counselors, on their countertransference behaviors against parents with accompaniment of their children for interviews. Research questions were set as follows.
This study sought to define the influences of parents self-differentiation with accompaniment of their children, perceived by child counselors, on their countertransference behaviors against parents with accompaniment of their children for interviews. Research questions were set as follows.
1. How are the influences of the degree of parents self-differentiation perceived by child counselors on their countertranference behavior against parents? 2. How are the influences of the degree of parents self-differentiation perceived by child counselors on their countertranference behavior against children? 3. How are the influences of parents self-differentiation perceived by child counselors on their countertranference behavior which in turn influence their countertransference behavior against children, according to the degree of such parents self-differentiation?
This study surveyed 161 child counselors, using a questionnaire which is composed of self-differentiation of parents accompanied by their children, and counselors' countertransference behavior against children and parents. The collected data was analyzed using SPSS 23.0 program. To define the relationship between counselors' countertransference behavior against parents self-differentiation perceived by them and their countertransference behavior against children, a correlation analysis of various variables and sub-variables was performed. To examine a difference in sub-factors of countertransference according to self-differentiation, t-test was performed. To examine the influences of the parents self-differentiation perceived by counselors on their countertransference behavior against parents and children, a multiple regression analysis was performed.
The findings of this study are summarized below. First, when the degree of self-differentiation of parents accompanied by children, perceived by child counselors, was high, counselors' negative countertransference behaviors against parents and their positive countertransference behaviors against parents were all found to be high. Self-differentiation variables that influence counselors' countertransference behaviors against parents were found to be self-position and emotional reaction. This suggests that of parents self-differentiation variables, the higher self-position and emotion reaction were, the higher countertransference behaviors against parents were. Second, when the degree of self-differentiation of parents with the accompaniment of children, perceived by child counselors, was high, counselors' negative and positive countertransference against children were all found to be high. The self-differentiation variable that influenced counselors' countertranference behaviors against children was to be self-position. This indicates that of self-differentiation variables of parents, the higher self-position was, the countertransference behaviors against children were high. Third, child counselors' negative and positive countertransference behaviors against parents with accompaniment of children, perceived by them, alternately influenced their negative and positive countertranference behaviors against children accompanied by their parents.
It is meaningful that the findings of this study confirmed that even though the degree of self-differentiation of parents with accompaniment of children, perceived by counselors, was high, counselors can show more countertransference behaviors against and parents and children. Lastly, follow-up research on this study will be conducted, considering the limits of this study.
