In order to overcome the reality that the competition rate in the domestic manufacturing industry is gradually decreasing, the government is supporting the supply and spread of smart factories. Nevertheless, the effect of smart factories in most SMEs is insufficient. Although the smart factory conversion was not without results, the spread of the smart factory is being delayed due to the corporate culture that avoids sharing information due to technological security, the shortage of operating manpower, and anxiety about the new system. In addition, even if a smart factory is introduced to a company, the ratio of middle-aged workers is high due to the nature of the manufacturing industry, so they are not familiar with the digital system and rather accept it as an obstacle. There are very few companies that develop even to the advancement of their factories. Therefore, it is necessary to search for problems and solutions that occur in the process of collecting SME manufacturing data, and to study the improvement of application interfaces and introduction of new devices. This study proposes efficient devices for the manufacturing work environment for small and medium-sized manufacturing companies that build smart factories, seeks user-centered UI/UX improvement plans, and leads the advancement of smart factories through simplification of work procedures and data collection. As for the scope and method of the study, the smart factory construction project supervised by KOSMO (Korea Smart Manufacturing Office) was carried out, and an automobile mold maker located in Ansan, which had not improved for several years after the construction of the smart factory construction level started, was selected. In order to study whether the interface between the MES (Manufacturing Executive System), the application developed when the current smart factory was introduced, and the installed device, is suitable for field workers, the application configuration and manufacturing workflow were delivered to the company and analyzed. In addition, on-site observational surveys and in-depth interviews with stakeholders were divided into management, managerial, and production positions. Through this, problems and inconveniences of the interface were identified and a new device to be improved was derived. According to the requirements of each user, the interface of the existing device was improved and a prototype applied to the newly derived device was proposed. As a result of this study, we were able to receive negative feedback from both managers and operators about the interface of the existing MES. We found that the manager who controls on the PC screen has opinions about the lack of visibility and doubts about the accuracy of the collected data because the interface when assigning tasks and checking the work progress is in a data listing type configuration. Workers also increased their work due to the inconvenience of having to input information about situations occurring during work at the kiosk, which made it difficult to collect data, which is a key element of a smart factory. In order to solve the problem, we got the insight that it is necessary for managers to optimize the interface of the PC screen and to introduce wearable devices that can guide and control the work situation for workers. Among wearable devices, smart watches are possible with an alarm function, but there are limitations in visual recognition due to a small screen and limitations in attaching cameras and sensors. It was judged that these points were not suitable for usability in the smart factory worksite. On the other hand, smart glasses can visually check the progress or notifications in real time, and hand control can be minimized with the camera and LiDAR sensor attached to the smart glasses. To improve visibility, the prototype of the newly introduced smart glasses and the PC interface minimized unnecessary operations for business improvement and data collection. Through this study, it is expected that data collection, which is an important element of a smart factory, will be smoothly carried out and will be used as a way to lead the advancement of the smart factory.
