This study aims to analyze in-depth psychological responses and trauma in injury phases in sports. Participants in the study selected 10 college athletes with more than five years of athletic experience, including golf, tennis, snowboarding, individual sports, basketball, soccer, and baseball, and conducted in-depth analysis through focus group interviews on psychological reactions and trauma. The interview questionnaire was produced and analyzed in depth through a collective meeting of experts, consisting of one professor majoring in sports psychology, two Ph.D.s, and two Ph.D. programs, including researchers. By dismantling the transcribed data into sentences or words, coding, weakening, and categorization were carried out through triangular verification, and repeated comparison, analysis, and classification between the data into categories until consensus was reached, dividing them into a total of 5 categories and 13 subcategories. There were five categories and 13 subcategories of athletes' perceptions, causes and psychological reactions, trauma types and reactions, recovery factors and psychological responses, and coping with injuries presented by college athletes. University athletes' perceptions of injury, trauma, and recovery were explored, and the causes of injury, injury, and psychological responses were identified as trauma types and reactions, and recovery factors and psychological responses were suggested. The cause of the injury was condition, major batter-conscious injury, bystander, and others, and the psychology of the injury was anxiety, fear, sorry, irritation, frustration, and liberation, and psychological responses were psychological contraction, negative thoughts, overprotections, and positive thoughts. Trauma types and reactions were divided into physical and psychological trauma, with weight, hospital, and manual therapy for college athletes, while only five out of 19 overcame trauma and all overcame had sufficient rest periods after retirement. The recovery factors and psychological responses were divided into constraints, psychological responses, and responses from neighboring people. Most college athletes showed a change in their career path due to trauma. Based on in-depth analysis of injury-level psychological responses and trauma among college athletes, this study will provide basic data on injury-level psychology, trauma psychology, and coping, as well as provide guidelines in many sports injuries and trauma situations.
