This study was conducted to understand the relationship between the distribution status of Salix spp. and locational environment in the Namhan River watersheds. From July 2020 to August 2021, the investigation was conducted by installing 10m×10m plots in 58 locations, focused on places where Salix spp. natural colonies were developed. The vegetation structure was divided into four communities through TWINSPAN analysis and DCA analysis by investigating tree species, tree height, Diameter at Breast Height(DBH), and crown width to obtain relative importance percentage, species diversity, evenness, and dominance. The locational environment like distance from the water, flooding possibility, soil moisture, and soil texture was investigated. Based on the investigated, Duncan's Multiple Range Test (DMRT) analysis and correlation analysis were conducted to find out the relationship between vegetation structure and locational environment. Plant social network analysis was used to analyze the affinity between Salix spp. as well and other species. Based on the TWINSPAN analysis and DCA analysis, 58 plots were classified into clusters with similar species composition: community I (Salix koreensis dominant community), community II (Salix koreensis and Salix chaenomeloides dominant community), community III (Salix chaenomeloides dominant community), and community IV (Salix gracilistyla dominant community). The species diversity was found to be community I (0.6357) > community II (0.6253) > community III (0.3689) > community IV (0.2984), and the evenness was community I (0.8169) > community II (0.6733) > community IV (0.6254). As for the number of species and individuals, community I had 228 of 6 species, community II had 196 of 9 species, community III had 38 of 3 species, and community IV had 52 of 3 species. As a result of analyzing the relationship between Salix spp. and location characteristics, the distance from the water was found to be community IV (1.14m), community III (6.8m), community II (55.22m), and community I (65.81m). Flooding possiblity was that community I had no possibility of flooding, and community II and community III were close to intermittent flooding areas. Community IV was close to always flooding area. In the case of soil moisture, colonies III and IV correspond to high soil moisture, and colonies I and II were found to be distributed in soil close to low soil moisture. In the case of soil texture, fine sand and veryfine sand were distributed in the rest of the communities, except for community III that silt was distributed. Furthermore, As a result of correlation analysis, the rest of the locational environment except soil texture showed a significant correlation with the community. In terms of analysis result of the plant social network, the two species with the highest positive correlation were Rosa multiflora and Salix triandra. Conversely, the species with the highest negative correlation were Salix koreensis and Salix gracilistyla. The Salix koreensis had the highest frequency of simultaneous appearance with the Salix chaenomeloides, followed by the Ligustrum obtusifolium, the Rosa multiflora, and the Platanus occidentalis. Salix chaenomeloides appeared simultaneously with in the order of Ligustrum obtusifolium, Salix gracilistyla, and Rosa multiflora. In the case of Salix gracilistyla, Salix chaenomeloides appeared the most frequently. As a result, the relationship between Salix spp. and the locational environment was found to be unrelated to soil texture, unlike previous studies, but it is believed that the distribution of Salix spp. communities in the Namhangang River basin is more environmental than soil texture. In future studies, it is considered necessary to combine additional locational environmental factors to find the factor that has the highest correlation with the distribution of Salix spp.
