With the recent increase in environmental issues and interest in them due to climate change, carbon neutrality has been declared through the Paris Agreement worldwide, and various policies are being implemented to limit global temperature rise by 1.5℃. Currently, through the 2030 Greenhouse Gas Reduction Roadmap Amendment in Korea, it has been suggested that the greenhouse gas reduction goal of the building sector will be reduced by 64.5 million tons CO2e, 32.7% of the greenhouse gas emission forecast. Even within the domestic green architectural certification system, the environmental impact of buildings from the perspective of past life is evaluated through the evaluation of the Life Cycle, inducing the establishment of environmental load reduction plans, and the status of green architectural certification continues to increase. In particular, the environmental impact of the production stage, construction stage, and disposal stage according to building materials accounts for about 40% of the environmental impact from the perspective of the pre-life cycle of buildings. Accordingly, not only the energy consumption in the operating stage but also the environmental impact of building materials should be considered. Currently, the Life Cycle Assessment derives the input volume of building materials based on the quantity calculation statement, making it difficult to perform the evaluation in the absence of the quantity calculation statement, and it takes a lot of evaluation time. Therefore, as part of a study to support the performance of the building Life Cycle Assessment, this study aims to propose a schematic building process evaluation methodology through the construction of a standard building material DB. To this end, 195 Life Cycle Assessment results were collected and set as a sample. Based on the green architecture certification standard commentary and design overview, buildings were classified by use and structure, and building materials were classified into 14 categories. Building material inputs were analyzed using probabilistic analysis techniques for buildings with more than 15 samples, and building material inputs with less than 15 samples were analyzed using average values for buildings. Based on the analysis results, the least likely probability of occurrence in the RC group of apartment buildings, RC group of industrial buildings, RC group of business buildings, and RC group of general buildings were constructed as standard building materials DB. Based on the established standard quantity DB, a schematic methodology for Life Cycle Assessment was proposed, and its reliability was verified through case analysis. The composition of this study is divided into 6 chapters, and the main contents of each chapter are as follows.
Chapter 1: Introduction Chapter 2: Existing Literature Review Chapter 3: Construction of a standard DB for building materials based on probabilistic analysis techniques. Chapter 4: Proposal of a methodology for evaluating the Life Cycle Assessment using the standard DB for building materials Chapter 5: Case Evaluation Chapter 6: Conclusion
This study drew the following conclusions by proposing a methodology for evaluating the building Life Cycle Assessment through the construction of a standard DB for building materials as part of a study for efficient performance of the Life Cycle Assessment.
1. 195 results of the building Life Cycle Assessment were collected and the buildings were classified according to their use and structure.
2. The input volume was analyzed by classifying building materials into 14 types using probabilistic analysis techniques and average values according to the number of samples. 3. The most likely probabilistic value was constructed as a standard DB for building materials, and based on this, a schematic methodology for evaluating the building Life Cycle Assessment was presented.
4. As a result of conducting a case evaluation using the standard building material DB, the reliability was confirmed by showing similar environmental impact assessment results based on the standard volume DB and actual volume output.
5. As a result of conducting the case evaluation, a schematic evaluation of the building Life Cycle Assessment is possible using the methodology presented in this study, but it is believed that a standard DB for various buildings should be established in future studies.
In this study, the overall Life Cycle Assessment was simplified by proposing a schematic methodology of building Life Cycle Assessment, and it is expected that more efficient Life Cycle Assessment will be possible in terms of time if the overall Life Cycle Assessment is performed based on the standard DB built using the probabilistic analysis technique. In addition, it is believed that the Life Cycle Assessment can be performed through short-term professional training, and the Life Cycle Assessment can be performed without difficulty even in the absence of a quantity calculation report.
