Looking at the status of marriage immigrants by year, it will be reported as 168,711 in 2021. Of the 168,711 marriage immigrants, 137,750 (81.6%) are women, and the majority of marriage immigrants are women. Since most foreign women who entered Korea through international marriage acquire nationality and settle as members of Korean society, it can be said that their high-quality adaptation is very important. However, due to difficulties in adapting to a different culture and lack of opportunities for social activities, mutual support with neighbors is not well achieved, resulting in suffering as a neighbor. These complex factors can negatively affect their quality of life. In order to improve the quality of life of marriage immigrant women, acculturation stress, social support, and spiritual well-being are important factors.
Therefore this study aims to identify correlations of their acculturative stress, social support and spiritual will-being with the degrees of their quality of life and influencing factors on their quality of life, providing basic data on developing nursing intervention to improve their quality of life
This data was collected from October 7th to 25th, 2021 and the sample consisted of female marriage immigrants who lived in B and K City and visited Multicultural Family Support Centers and 139 women from China and Vietnam joining online self-helping groups for female marriage immigrants in B City.
As a research tool, the quality of life of the World Health Organization (WHO) was modified by Min Sung-gil (2000) from the "Simple Quality of Life" WHOQOL-100 (World Health Organization Quality of Life Assessment Instrument, 1995) developed by WHO (1995), as well as the level of acculturative stress was measured by a tool developed by Sandhu & Asrabadi(1994) and modified by Homg mi-ki(2009). The level of social support was measured by a tool developed by Park Ji-won (1985) and reconstructed by Ban Seung-hyun (2008). The level of spiritual well-being was measured by a tool developed by Paloutzian and Ellison (1982) and translated by Choi Sang-soon (1990) and modified and supplemented by Kang Jung-ho (1996). Data analysis was conducted by using the IBM SPSS 22.0(SPSS Korea, Data Solution Inc.)statistical program. Real number, percentage, mean and standard deviation, minimum value, maximum value, t-test, Analysis of variance, Scheffé test, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and Stepwise multiplie regression were used to measure data.
The results of this study were as follows.
1. The mean level of acculturative stress of the subjects was 86.44 ±31.78 (range of the tool: 35∼175) and the mean score was 2.46 ± 0.905(range of scale: 1∼5). The mean level of social support was 85.16 ± 24.78 (range of the tool: 25∼125) and the mean score was 3.40 ± 0.99 (range of scale 1∼5). The mean level of the spiritual well-being of the subjects was 54.82 ± 10.08 (range of the tool 20∼80) and the mean score was 2.74 ± 0.50 (range of scale 1∼4). The mean level of the quality of life of the subjects was 94.50 ± 16.88 (range of the tool: 26∼130) and the mean score was 3.63 ± 0.64 (range of scale 1∼5).
2. The differences in the degree of quality of life according to the demographics of the participants were: marriage period (F=5.493, p=.005), spouse education (F=4.054, p=.009), occupation(t=2.532, p=.012), average monthly household income (F=2.933, p=.023) and duration of residence(F=3.235, p=.042). This difference was statistically significant. The results from the post-test showed that the group with less than 5 years to 10 years of marriage had a higher quality of life than the group with less than 5 to 10 years of marriage, and the group with final spouse education had a higher quality of life than the high school group. And the quality of life was higher in the group with jobs than in the group without jobs.
3. The correlation between participants’ social support and quality of life was a moderate positive (r= .586, p<.001). The correlation between spiritual well-being and quality of life level perceived by participants (r= .453, p<.001) was a moderate positive. The degree of spiritual well-being of the subject is the degree of acculturative stress (r=-.329, p<.001).There was a weak negative correlation and the degree of spiritual well-being and social support (r=.534, p<.001) had a moderate positive correlation.
4. The significant factors affecting the level of quality of life were social support(β=.471, p<.001), marriage period(β=-.235, p=.001), spiritual well-being(β=.180, p=.021), and occupation(β=.177, p=.009). Total explanation, for the resilience of these variables was 42.3%.
In the results of this study, social support, marriage period, spiritual well-being, and occupation were confirmed as factors affecting the quality of life of marriage immigrant women. Therefore, in order to improve the quality of life of married immigrant women, it is thought that it is necessary to develop and apply a quality of life promotion program that can improve social support and spiritual well-being by considering the marriage period and occupation.
