The Moderating Effect of Resilience on the Effect of Caregiving Burden of Elderly Family Caregivers Using Day Care Centers on Depression원문보기

This study aimed to find out the modulating effect of resilience in the effect of burden for care on depression, targeting the main caregivers for the elderly who use daycare centers. To achieve this purpose, we conducted a survey targeting the main caregivers of the elderly who uses daycare center in Chungnam in June and July of 2021z For the survey, the heads of 30 daycare centers in Chungnam were asked to participate in the survey 20-30 sheets per institution. A total of 320 copies were distributed and 313 copies were submitted back. Among them, the data of 304 copies were used for analysis, excluding 9 copies that were not about main family caregivers. Frequency analysis and mean difference were analyzed through the use of SPSS Win 24.0 ver., and moderating effect analysis (model 1) was performed using SPSS PROCESS MACRO 3.5.4 ver. The summary focusing on the main results and suggestions are like as follows. First, the main caregivers of the elderly using the day care center were 65.1% for sons/daughters and 26.0% for daughters-in-law. That is, the generation of children of the eldery played a role as main caregiver. 63% of them were living with the elderly, and ‘There was no choice’ was the main motivation for caring. If the range includes "from marriage to living together", it was revealed that 64.2% of main caregivers have no choice but to care for them. Nevertheless, the intimacy of family was significantly high. The use of the day care center was also mainly suggested by children, and the motivation for using it was also difficult to take care of them, such as "there is no one to take care of them" (52.0%) and "care time is burdensome" (34.2%). Satisfaction in the use of the day care center, which solves these difficulties in care, was high for both the elderly and the main care giver, and positive changes appeared in both the health of the elderly and family relationships. Second, if the main care giver is 65 years of age or older, the health and economic conditions are poor, and the economic conditions of the elderly supporting them and dementia symptoms are poor, the burden of supporting them is greater and depression is high. In this situation, the burden of support was high when they were dissatisfied with the use of the day care center and perceived that the elderly's health status or family relationship get worse after using the day care center. In the end, whether the main care giver is a spouse or child, it can be concluded that the elderly-elderly care has a high burden of support and high depression. Considering that many respondents say the health status of the elderly and their family relations have improved after using the day care center, education, counseling, and support for the group are necessary if they are the main care givers of the elderly over 65 years old. Third, in the case that the health and economic status of the main caregivers and family relationship improved after using the daycare center, it was found that resilience was high. This indicates that when resources such as health, economic condition, and support from family members are abundant, there is a high possibility of escaping stress and support. This was verified as a moderating effect of resilience in the influence of burden as caregivers on depression. In the group with low resilience, depression increases sharply as the burden of support increases, but in the group with high resilience, depression gradually increases as the burden of support increases. Therefore, the main care giver of the elderly who have difficulty in health function enough to use the day care center experiences the burden of support and depression. However, it is necessary to provide a way to improve the resilience of the main care giver in that this negative influence is mitigated when the resilience is high. Counseling and local community's support are the representative measures for this.
