Medication guidance is a process of exchanging messages between pharmacists and patients, and it is necessary to understand the patient's condition for the effective and safe use of treatments related to diseases and health problems. Therefore, it is often necessary to share confidential information of patients. However, most of the pharmacy environment in Korea has difficulty concentrating on conversations and is not guaranteed confidentiality due to medication guidance/drug counseling between pharmacists and patients at general counters. In this context, it is important to prepare an independent counseling space for pharmacies where communication can be smoothly carried out, and it is necessary to provide evidence on whether patient satisfaction increases accordingly. The purpose of this study was to investigate whether providing independent spaces at local pharmacies and providing medication guidance affects patients' satisfaction. This study was conducted as a cross-sectional survey, and subjects who received medication guidance from pharmacists (researchers) in separate counseling spaces were asked to fill out a written consent form without the intervention of researchers and leave the completed questionnaire in the recovery box. The questionnaire was voluntarily participated in the study from September 6, 2021 to October 6, 2021 in adult patients who visited one local pharmacy in Chungcheongbuk-do, which was operated by researchers (graduates). There were 16 questionnaires, consisting of Part 1. Experience in pharmacy use, Part 2. Level of consent for each factor related to pharmacist service satisfaction, Part 3. Overall satisfaction and future hopes, and Part 4. Basic characteristics of respondents. This study was a survey asked to humans so conducted after approval by the Institutional Review Board (IRB) of CHA University. When the survey subjects filled their own responses, a researcher typed answers on questionnaire form of the Google questionnaire, they were automatically stored in the Microsoft Excel program. In order to compare the differences of respondent characteristics in the degree of satisfaction improvement by communication factor, statistical significance was tested by applying the significance level of 0.05 using the t-test method, and the IBM SPSS program (version 21) was used. There were a total of 133 respondents, 57 people in males (42.9%), 76 people in females (57.1%). 16 people in 20s (12.0%), 30 people in 30s (22.6%), 39 people in 40s (29.3%), 27 people in 50s (20.3%), 16 people in 60s (12.0%), and 5 people in 70s or older(3.8%). The final educational background was no one in no-education (0%), 2 people in elementary school graduates (1.5%), 3 people in middle school graduates (2.3%), 36 people in high school graduates (27.1%), 86 people in college graduates (64.7%), 6 people in graduate graduates (4.5%). People responded on how many current chronic diseases were 67 people in zero(50.4%), 42 people in one (31.6%), 21 people in two (15.8%), and 3 people in three (2.3%), no one in more than 4. In the respondents' pharmacy usage behavior, a researcher asked ‘How many times visited pharmacy (excluding those who only went to buy masks) in the past year‘, 11 people (8.3%) people in 0 times, 72 people in 1∼2 times (54.1%), 23 people in 3∼4 times (17.3%), 9 people in 5∼6 times (6.8%), 18 people in more than 7 times (13.5%). A researcher asked ‘Was it the first time to get drugs by prescription at this pharmacy‘, 65 people (48.9%) answered that it was the first time and 68 (51.1%) said it was not the first time. When asked ‘Have you ever received medication guidance/consultation in separated space before at another pharmacy likely today?‘, 106 people (79.7%) responded ‘No‘, 23 people (17.3%) answered 1 or 2 times, 3 people (3.0%) answered 3 or 4 times, and 0 people (0%) answered that they had more than 5 times. On ‘Compared to open counters, are you satisfied for medication guiduance in separated space?’ questionnare, 1 person (0.75%) for "much less good," none for "a little less good," 7 people for "no difference", 28 people for "a little better" (21.80%), and 96 people for "much better." On "the degree to which it is good to ask questions or not understood," 1 person (0.75%) said "much less good," 1 person (0.75%) said "a little less good," 7 people (5.26%) said it was “no difference”, 30 people (22.56%) said “a little better”, and 94 people (70.68.%) said “much better”. ", there were 1 person (0.75%) in ‘much less good’, 3 people (2.26%) in ‘slightly less good’, 7 people (2.26%) in ‘no difference’, 32 people (24.06%) in ‘slightly better’, and 90 people (67.67%) in ‘much better’ In the difference in future hopes for the respondents' on independent space "If possible in the future, do you hope to be provided medication guidance/consultation in a separate space rather than an open counter?" there were 2 people (1.50%) said ‘much less good’, 2 people (1.50%) said ‘slightly less good’, 14 people (10.53%) said ‘no diffenence’, 36 people (27.07%) said ‘slightly better’, and 79 people (59.40%). said ‘much better’ This study is meaningful in that it is actually the first study to investigate satisfaction after medication guidance in a separated space. Satisfaction with medication guidance in independent spaces compared to open spaces averaged 4.6 points, which was a high degree of improvement. The degree of concentration on talking to pharmacists was the highest with 4.7 points, the degree of understanding of medication guidance was 4.6 points, the degree of comfort in the atmosphere for counseling was 4.6 points, and the future hopes was 4.4 points. Overall, women in their 40s and under, an average of three or more visits to pharmacies per month, and when visiting the pharmacy for the first time, satisfaction and future hopes were consistently higher than those of other groups. In this study, it was confirmed that the satisfaction with the medication guidance in the separated space was significantly improved compared to the open counter.
