최근 RPA(Robotic Process Automation)는 IT 산업의 가장 뜨거운 주제 중의 하나로 떠오르고 있다.

Recently, RPA(Robotic Process Automation) has emerged as one of the hottest topics in the IT industry. RPA is a technology that automates, through software robots, simple and rule-based tasks that humans repeatedly perform using information systems. Since the 2010s, an increasing number of domestic and foreign companies have adopted RPA, and the spread of a robust RPA development platform is accelerating its spread. In general, the RPA project analyzes the automation target business process through qualitative methods such as workshop, interview, and observation in the process analysis and design phases, and draws up it in the process definition documents. The reason for using the qualitative method is that it is not possible to obtain a record of a specific task step(e.g., entering data values in a specific field). Information on which screen the person in charge uses to perform a specific task step and what value is entered is not recorded in the internal information systems either. Due to the absence of such records, companies are spending a lot of time and money in the process analysis and design phases, and suffer a lot from development, testing, and maintenance phases as well. In particular, when the complexity of the work process performed by the person in charge is high or when many exceptions occur, it becomes more and more difficult to discover the work process to be performed by the software robot. To overcome these difficulties, this dissertation aims to develop a technology which discovers RPA target work processes. The technology supports the entire RPA project cycle including the analysis and design phases. In addition, the dissertation intends to verify the effectiveness of the developed technology by conducting empirical research that applies it to the process analysis, design, and maintenance phases of RPA projects conducted in a real company. Finally, the research conclusion of this dissertation, social and academic implications, and future research directions will be discussed.
