This paper is intended to contemplate the researcher's expression of anxiety, utilizing psychoanalysis theory on a forest image art drawn by the researcher for the goal of researching the characteristics of anxiety expressed on the painting, while using the theoretical background of psychoanalysis, previous case studies and research work analysis as the contents of this thesis. The researcher, in order to escape from their atresia-induced anxiety, visualized it in the form of art in a forest. In this process, we were able to confirm through their method of drawing leaves, coloring green to fulfill the forest and the portrayal of water flow, etc, were unconsciously projecting their anxiety. Therefore, in order to explain the characteristics of the researcher’s anxiety and their way of expression, psychoanalysis theory was considered, and previous works in the history of art that showed signs of psychological anxiety were analyzed. According to the above statements, in the theoretical background of psychoanalysis, Sigmund Freud’s(1856-1939) theory of realistic anxiety, neurotic anxiety and moral anxiety, along with Jacques Lacan’s(1901-1981) theory of lack of individuality and desire for others are analyzed, then, through cases in the history of art that showed signs of psychological anxiety, the relationship between anxiety and color palette in art is considered by using Goethe's theory of color. Along with this, cases of artists displaying psychological anxiety in their arts have to be used as the researcher’s art analysis tool, and in order to do that, paintings made by Caspar David Friedrich(1774-1840), Vincent Van Gogh(1853-1890), Edvard Munch(1863-1944), Pablo Picasso(1881-1973) that showed signs of psychological anxiety are analyzed with psychoanalysis theory and theory of color as a basis. The ultimate goal of this thesis, through the expression of anxiety in the researcher’s painting, is to confirm that anxiety is a basic psychology for humans living in a society and overcome it through positive methods in life. The researcher who escaped the grasps of realistic anxiety, used their escape instinct to look at a forest and using this image, created a series of art called which features peaceful and silent forests. Moreover, through the series , their repressed ego caused by anxiety, was replaced by the traits of defense mechanism that Freud mentioned, which are oppression and sublimation. Particularly, it was confirmed that when sentimentality and emotions are projected in the colors, their anxiety is maximized. In the series , where the blank space of the skies and the characteristics of water slowly reveal themselves, through Lacan’s theory of anxiety, it is confirmed that people in a society cannot fill in their lack of individuality and therefore desire other people, but remain unable to avoid their anxiety. As a result, the expression of anxiety as the forest image in the researcher’s painting began from personal experiences, however, newborn infants became the basis for identifying the problems of facing anxiety due to their lack of individuality and their desire for others. Especially, examining the relationship of the anxiety and colors in the researcher’s visualization of a forest image that was made for the purpose of overcoming their anxiety, we can confirm the importance of the fact that anxiety is a universal problem that all of us, humans experience, and, therefore, through the medium that is art, continuous research must be executed.
