The purpose of this study was to empirically verify the effect of perceived COVID-19 pandemic stress on hypochondriasis as well as to provide basic data to help establish strategies and methods to prevent and treat hypochondriasis by analyzing the mediating effects of resilience and emotional dysregulation. In this study, the data were collected using COVID-PSS-10, K-CD-RISC, K-DERS, WI, targeting adult men and women living within a metropolitan area, and data from 468 respondents were used for the final analysis. Also, frequency analysis, descriptive statistical analysis, correlation analysis, measurement model analysis, structural equation model analysis, and mediating effect analysis were performed using SPSS 25.0 for Windows and Amos 24.0 program. As a result of the study, perceived COVID-19 pandemic stress has a significant effect on hypochondriasis through emotional dysregulation. In addition, the direct effect of perceived COVID-19 pandemic stress on hypochondriasis was found to have a statistically significant effect, indicating a partial mediating effect affecting hypochondriasis through emotional dysregulation. However, the indirect effect of perceived COVID-19 pandemic stress on hypochondriasis through resilience was not statistically significant. Therefore, this study suggests that it is necessary to reduce emotional dysregulation as a strategy to prevent hypochondriasis.
