(Abstract) As dependence on fossil fuels is increasing day by day due to the advanced industrial structure, global environmental problems such as global warming have arisen. Since the average surface temperature has risen by more than 1 degree Celsius compared to pre-industrial times, the diversification of the ecosystem is decreasing due to changes in the habitats of animals and plants and extinction of many species due to seasonal changes. The United Nations has taken the global warming problem seriously and is trying to regulate carbon emissions through the Glasgow Climate Agreement.
Emissions from the transport sector accounts for about 25% of global carbon emissions, and road transport accounts for 74% of the transport sector. Therefore, the EU and other countries regulate carbon emissions by regulating emissions of automobiles sold in their country, and inducing changes in consumption patterns by giving consumers purchase and tax benefits for eco-friendly automobiles, while at the same time encouraging automobile manufacturers to produce and promote internal combustion engine vehicles, and regulate sales to induce conversion to eco-friendly vehicles.
It is predicted that electric vehicles will take over the current vehicles as an eco-friendly vehicle. When electric vehicles become widespread, the ecosystem of the automobile industry is expected to undergo a major change, and in particular, the maintenance business in charge of car repair and management is expected to change significantly. Compared to an internal combustion engine vehicle, an electric vehicle has 30% fewer parts, and most of the engine or transmission parts disappear. Since most of the sales of the automobile maintenance business, commonly called “car centers” in Korean, are replacement and repair of consumables for engines and transmissions, it is expected that the automobile maintenance business may be forced into a situation where it is necessary to contemplate its existence when the electric vehicle era arrives.
However, the era of pandemics and electric vehicles have put the prospect of automobile maintenance business into uncertainty. In order to overcome this reality, I tried to come up with effective counterplans by surveying the thoughts of owners on electric vehicles and the direction of structural changes in the maintenance business when the electric vehicle era comes.
As a result of the survey, shops with annual sales of 100 million won or less and of the run by 50-year-old single-person accounted for a large portion were not prepared for the electric vehicle era yet. However many have shown their willingness to survive even if sales decrease due to the spread of electric vehicles, so it is believed that the efforts of industry-management, automobile industry, and professional associations to provide support for practical training and funding measuring equipment, so that they can successfully settle down and supplement organically, ultimately aiming the growth in car industry is essential.
