The purpose of this study was to investigate whether virtual reality exercise program intervention was effective in improving balance ability and exercise interest in the elderly. The subjects of the study were 12 people aged 65 years or older who scored 24 or higher in the MMSE-K, and were calculated using the G-power 3.1 program. A pretest-posttest design was used for the study design, and the study session was conducted 3 times a week for a total of 12 sessions for 4 weeks. As a result of the study, First, it could be confirmed that the intervention of the virtual reality exercise program had an effect on the improvement of the balance ability of the elderly. For the evaluation of balance ability, Berg Balance Scale, Functional reach test, and Timed up & Go test were performed, and all evaluations showed significant improvement. In addition, to find out whether virtual reality exercise program intervention affects the improvement of exercise interest in the elderly, the intra-exercise motivation test and the Korean version of the outcome expectations for exercise scale-2 were conducted, and both tests showed significant improvement. In addition, the necessity of exercise and the effect of virtual reality exercise program were investigated, including qualitative research. This study confirmed the clinical applicability of exercise program intervention using virtual reality to the elderly, and found that it had a positive effect on improving exercise interest as well as balance ability. Therefore, it is meaningful to show that a virtual reality exercise program for the elderly can have a clinically positive effect.
