Hot-exciton emitters featuring high-lying reverse intersystem crossing (hRISC) have served as promising candidates due to their improved exciton utilization efficiency and decreased efficiency roll-off in organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs). To investigate the excited state structure-property relationship and the spin-orbit coupling (SOC) effect in anthracene/benzophenone-based materials, we designed three anthracene benzophenone derivatives by varying substituent at peripheral benzophenone units finally prepared which afford AnBP_H, AnBP_OMe, and AnBP_F. A systematic investigation of their excited state properties and density functional theory (DFT) calculations showed that all synthetic compounds have hybridized local and charge-transfer (HLCT) characters in their emissive transitions. These T1 energy levels were similar to the anthracene core and contributed to the orbital electrons of the T1 state. Interestingly, the corresponding substituents contributed to the Tn (n ≥ 2) energy levels. The orbital electrons on the T2 state are concentrated in peripheral benzophenone units, thereby leading to the 3LE character. In contrast, the T3 state has a 3CT character from the anthracene core to peripheral benzophenone units and has the closest energy level to the S1 state. Among them, AnBP_OMe achieved the highest quantum efficiency of 39% in film, and it exhibited a higher EQE of 2.88% in non-doped OLED. Through transient electroluminance (TrEL) and magneto electroluminance (MEL), AnBP_OMe additionally confirmed the existence of triplet-triplet annihilation (TTA). Therefore, AnBP_OMe might be applied for a blue emitter that shows the HLCT-TTA mechanism.
