The operating principle of collaboration and solidarity centered on people gives the social economy sector its power in resolving local community issues brought on by the failure of the state and the market. "Cooperation amongst cooperatives" is one of the seven cooperative principles, while "contribution to the local community" is another. This implies that the term "cooperation," which may be justified, is not necessary when discussing networks between social economy entities. The situation is different in community networks, where organizations with various personalities and objectives are gathered. When there is community-wide agreement on objectives and ideals, as well as cooperative attitudes, it helps to facilitate problem-solving and is beneficial in achieving results. Academic research is also being done at the same time as the importance of the social economy sector in resolving local community issues is becoming more widely recognized. Existing research, however, tended to focus on collaboration between social economy organizations or on administrative domains like the government and public institutions. The perspective of research is similarly constrained. Even from a localized perspective, cooperation was frequently approached from the perspective of building social capital in the community. From the perspective of individual social economy organizations, cooperation is essential to sustain, grow, and maintain the organization. It's also true that social economy organizations recognize cooperation and solidarity as their fundamental guiding principles and reasons, but this acknowledgment only goes so far. There is a lack of knowledge and examples of how cooperation and solidarity can be demonstrated locally in each social economy organization, and there is a need for more study to serve as a guide. Therefore, this study aims to ensure that not only social economy organizations and administrations but also various local entities, including universities, civil society, and small business owners, can solve community problems through cooperative networks, and that cooperation and solidarity do not end up with unpractical declarations. This study aims to present implications to social economy network researchers and members of social economy organizations in the field through three papers by demonstrating the need for and specific examples of community cooperative network research that were previously lacking. In the first study, we conducted a literature review on articles that had been published in journals to examine the current research trend on social economy networks. There was a lack of social economy network research that members of social economy organizations can consult in a variety of situations and procedures. In the second study, the action research method was used which is a method in which researchers directly interact in the field to propose and practice alternatives. The study demonstrated the operation of a community cooperation network that formed throughout the course of store improvement project in the alley market through collaboration of local social economy organizations and various institutions. The third study analyzed the case of local cooperative network operation in the start-up support process as a single case study. This research, which demonstrates specific examples of regional cooperation network operation, can also be useful in various domains of social innovation to tackle local problems such as urban regeneration, commercial revitalization, and job creation using a network method. Furthermore, this is an example of an organization and institution with different features, such as a social economy sector in the community, organizing and conducting networks to achieve common goals in the region, which may be used as a model for experts in the field. The studies included in this thesis were each published as “Domestic Social Economy Networks in Korea: Narrative Review of Research Trends and Challenges” in Volume 15-3 of the Journal of Social Value and Enterprise, “A Study on the Improvement of Small Business Support in Alley Commercial District: A Case of a Small Business Rebuilding Project in Insu-dong, Gangbuk-gu” in Volume 9-2 of the Journal of Distribution and Logistics, and “A Case Study on Social Enterprise Start-up by Community Network Cooperation: Focusing on Hanshin University's Start-up Team, ‘Nakgwa Yusu’” in Volume 14-1 of the Journal of Social Value and Enterprise. The three papers were revised and supplemented to be submitted as a doctoral thesis.
