With the recent miniaturization of semiconductor devices, limitations of existing semiconductor materials have begun to be revealed, and various studies are being conducted to overcome them. Among them, low-dimensional materials are actively being studied by showing the possibility of overcoming various limitations of current bulk materials such as device performance improvement, miniaturization, flexible devices, wearable devices, and smart devices. Among the various applications, thermoelectric generation using low-dimensional materials has also been published, and considerable progress has been made in ZT enhancement research using nanostructures such as 0-dimensional (nanodd), 1-dimensional (nanowire, nanotube), and 2-dimensional (thin film). ZT is a dimensionless index, and it is known that the thermoelectric generation efficiency is proportional to ZT. However, despite many efforts to improve thermoelectric performance, the actual performance of thermoelectric devices is less efficient than other energy harvesting technologies, requiring the development of a new type of thermoelectric material. This research studied the improvement of thermoelectric characteristics using TMDC thin films among many low-dimensional materials and designed a new structure rather than simple use of thin films to improve thermoelectric power generation performance. Chapter 3 discusses the synthesis method of transition metal dichalcogenide, and attempts to analyze its characteristics using the thermal assist conversion (TAC) method among various synthesis methods. TAC growth is possible at a lower temperature than the existing TMDC growth temperature. At high temperatures, the reactivity of materials increases, making it difficult to select materials, so it is relatively advantageous to perform a low-temperature process. Compared to other growth methods, it is easy to manufacture large-area devices and adjust the thickness at a low price. A general CVD growth method has disadvantages in that the price of materials used for growth is relatively expensive and the thickness is relatively difficult to adjust. Chapter 4 attempts to improve TE performance using plasma treatment, and Chapter 5 measures and improves thermoelectric characteristics of a thin film that is not measured (or has high resistance(HR)) by applying a thin film with low resistance(LR) to the upper layer. These results are expected to help manufacture thermoelectric devices in the future as a way to overcome the limitations of improving thermoelectric properties using a single material.
