Effects of 10-week Progressive Resistance Exercise on Lymphedema, Health Related Physical Fitness, Blood lipids and Quality of Life of Breast Cancer Patients
Ma, Jing Miao Dept. of Physical Education The Graduate School Sangmyung University
The purpose study aims to investigate the effects of a 10-week progressive resistance exercise regimen on lymphedema, healthy physical fitness, blood lipids and quality of life in breast cancer patients. In this study, was conducted in patients with stage I-disease breast cancer in the TNM (Tumor Node Metastasis) cancer classification of women aged 45 to 55 years. The study group was divided into control group (n=12), exercise group (n=12), three times a weekly resistance exercise program for 10 weeks, These include Thera band, Dumbbell, and free Body weight. The control group does not exercise and maintain its daily life. In this study, lymphedema (opisthenar, Wrist, forearm, elbow, upper arm),Healthy fitness to body composition Heart and Lung function and flexibility,Lipid lipids total cholesterol (TC) triglycerides (TG), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C)),Quality of life was a dependent variable. It was found that no upper limb lymphedema in breast cancer patients occurred in a 10-week progressive resistance exercise regimen. It is seen that it is safe to repair with resistance exercise to breast cancer patients after surgery. The 10-week progressive resistance exercise program not significantly changed from changes in physical fitness to changes in body composition ,But in addition, progressive resistance exercise has significantly increased muscle strength, cardiopulmonary function, flexibility in breast cancer. The 10-week progressive resistance exercise regimen did not show significant differences in low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) levels in breast cancer patients, but the levels of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) increased significantly in exercise patients, and total cholesterol (TC) and triglycerides (TG) decreased. Through the resistance movement, the quality of life of breast cancer patients has been improved both physically and socially. Therefore, the gradual resistance exercise from low intensity to high intensity can improve the physical fitness of breast cancer patients, trigger health promotion and improve the quality of life, and an effective arbitration strategy is necessary.
