This paper presents the study of the effect of marketing strategies on the theatre audience's behavior such as commitment to viewing, degree of satisfaction, and decision-making for re-viewing plays. There have been many studies on the correlation between marketing and consumers of performing arts genres, namely, audiences, especially in sports and dance fields, which are relatively popular, but studies on the correlation between marketing and consumers in the field of theater are not common. Changes are urgently needed for theatrical companies suffering from chronic financial difficulties and for many theatre actors who are struggling between commerciality and artistry. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to seek the direction of marketing strategy development that should meet the various cultural needs and artistic levels of performance consumers, based on impacts of marketing activities on theater performances. In order to examine the effect of marketing strategy on consumers' viewing immersion, viewing satisfaction, and re-viewing decision-making, the study has reviewed the concept of marketing and the current status of theater performance marketing and identified the characteristics and forms of performing arts consumers. In addition, the literature review has been conducted on consumers’ viewing immersion, satisfaction, and factors for re-viewing performance. The research model has been designed by combining the results obtained from the literature review, and a questionnaire has been drafted. A survey was conducted for a sample size of 300 adults who had seen a play in theater. The analysis is based on data related to theater performance viewing, marketing mix strategy, viewing immersion, viewing satisfaction, and re-viewing decision-making and the collected data has been statistically analyzed. The outcome of the analysis indicates that the sub-factors of the marketing mix, price, place, work, and promotion have positive impact on consumers’ behavior. The statistical analysis has confirmed that viewing immersion also had a positive effect on viewing satisfaction and re-viewing decision-making, and similarly, viewing satisfaction had a positive effect on re-viewing decision-making. However, some of limitations in the analysis include that the age group of the survey subjects is excessively concentrated in their 30s and 40s, and that the subjective and broad individual propensity of consumers was not included in the analysis. Nonetheless, since the study shows that marketing strategy has a positive impact on the consumers’ behavior thus it may contribute to the theatre performance and management, efforts in developing an independent and tailor made marketing strategy and actively applying such a strategy on the theater companies would be desired. The author hopes that the independent marketing strategy can become a catalyst for small-scale theater companies to be recognized by the audience for their artistic value and to be able to offer consumers quality performances.
