Abstract
Development of Correct Walking Program for Young Children and Verification of Its Effectiveness
Young-Ok, Park Department of Child Play Therapy Graduate School of Joongbu University Directed by Prof. Young-Sook, Park
The purpose of this study is to develop an upright posture walking program that can actually be applied in the field of early childhood educational institutions, focusing on the walking patterns of young children. Accordingly, the purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of the program by examining the changes in the walking posture of young children depending on whether or not they participated in the program. In order to achieve this research purpose, a draft of a total of 20 upright posture walking programs consisting of 15 minutes per session was developed based on previous studies and literature review. The contents of the 20-sessions walking program focusing on proper posture were selected based on the walking technology so that infants could easily access it by themselves and easily apply it to the field in early childhood educational institutions. It was composed in consideration of linking the Nuri course with elementary school, and the session program was structured so that children could apply proper posture walking on their own, and the program was developed by emphasizing direct teaching methods from the viewpoint of behaviorism theory. The program composed in this way went through a content validity verification process targeting daycare teachers and physical education experts. In addition, through the validation process, it was verified that the right posture walking program developed in this study was structured so that teachers at daycare centers could easily use it in the field. In addition, it was verified that the activities were structured so that the regular infant's right posture walking program could be applied regardless of the constraints of reality where there is a large gap in the physical environment for infant walking activities depending on the institution. To verify the effectiveness of the regular upright posture walking program developed in this study, five daycare centers located in Seoul with similar geographical and physical environments were selected. There, 11 2-year-olds, 22 3-year-olds, 39 4-year-olds, and 32 5-year-olds, among a total of 104 infants, 52 each of the experimental group and the control group, were selected for walking posture and walking exercise. Pre- and post-tests were conducted. After that, the differences in walking posture and walking motion of young children according to whether or not the program was implemented were examined. As a tool for measuring walking posture and walking movement, some of the evaluation tools of the Wisconsin Gait Scale (WGS) were modified and used. Among the sub-factors of the infants' walking posture, the basic sense of balance, the center of the upper body of the sense of balance, and the center of the lower body of the sense of balance were measured. The collected data were statistically processed using frequency, mean, percentage, standard deviation, and covariance analysis in SPSS 26.0 program. The main results of the program effect verification in this study are as follows. First, the children of the experimental group to which the regular children's correct posture walking program developed in this study was applied showed significantly higher improvements in walking and posture habits than the children of the control group. Therefore, the effectiveness of the regular infant right posture walking program developed in this study was demonstrated. This effect was higher in 4 and 5-year-olds than in 2 and 3-year-olds. Second, compared to the children of the control group, the children of the experimental group to which the upright posture walking program developed in this study was applied showed a significantly higher improvement in walking habits among the sub-domains. Therefore, the effect of the regular infant's correct posture walking program developed in this study on the improvement of infant's walking posture was demonstrated. However, the fact that there was no significant difference in posture habits according to the angle of plantar tilt, which is a sub-region of walking posture, could be the result of a short period of 20 sessions of program application, which requires confirmation through follow-up studies. The results of this study show that the mechanism of physical development in infancy includes both environmental aspects such as biological maturation and teacher's direct intervention. In this study, in the case of 4-year-old and 5-year-old children, the result of clearly showing the effect of the program provides meaningful implications in relation to movement skills and sensitive periods in infancy. This shows that there is a need to provide related programs through Nuri courses. On the other hand, in the case of 2-year-old and 3-year-old, it is the time when the walking posture changes. It is expected that the regular right posture walking program of young children can be used as data for basic lifestyle and physical activity programs in early childhood institutions to help solve educational needs.
