The purpose of this study was to find an effective way to easily remove the paint when the paint is thickly applicated to bloodstains, and enhance the bloodstains under the paint. This was conducted focusing on a method for easily removing the paint by reducing the durability of the paint. Therefore, This study was conducted using oil-based paint and water-based paint with gypsum boards, which are frequently used for wall materials as well as surface for painting. Considering that the dryness of the bloodstains affects the degree of enhancement of bloodstains, samples were divided to painting on wet-state blood and dry-state blood. The dry-state blood samples were dried for 24 hours before first painting. Heating gun and thinner were used as a method to reduce the durability of the paint surface, and a scraper was used to remove the paint. Bluestar® was used as a reagent for observing bloodstains. As a result, different patterns were shown depending on the type of paint and the method of reducing durability of the paint. In the case of samples applicated with water-based paint which treated with heating gun and thinner showed better results regardless of the degree of dryness for blood. However, the case of the samples applicated with oil-based paint showed completely different results. Among the samples applicated with oil-based paint, all samples for not dried blood with paint in 1 to 4 layers showed the best results without using heating gun or thinner and removed only using scraper. However, when paint was applicated more than 5 layers, chemiluminescence could not be observed in samples removed only using scrapers without any other treatment, but after treatment with heating gun and thinner, chemiluminescence could be observed in samples with more than five layers. Especially, in the case of heating gun, the degree of chemiluminescence can be constantly observed without limitation for layers of paint. In addition, it was confirmed that when the paint is removed after treatment with the heating gun and thinner, the paint may seperated from samples as large piece, and in some cases, bloodstains could be observed from large pieces of paint by chemiluminescence.
