The purpose of this study is to systematically investigate the advance research of art therapy programs for Chinese patients with schizophrenia, explore its research development trend, reveal whether it has therapeutic effects, and provide basic data for this aspect of the program. To this end, this study conducted a systematic literature review of relevant academic journal papers and dissertations published from 1992 to 2021 through four databases: China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), China Biomedicine (CBM), Wanfang Data (WF), and VIP Chinese Journal (VIP). A total of 355 articles were collected, and 36 articles were finally included in the study through systematic screening using PICOT-SD criteria. The RoB and RoBANS tools were used to assess risk bias according to the type of study in the selected literature. The contents were evaluated by the researcher and a statistics professor, and the results were discussed with the supervising professor. Data were collected and analyzed using MS Excel, Noteexpress and SPSS 25.0. The results of systematic literature review of 36 included studies are as follows. In the past five years, the research on art therapy for Chinese patients with schizophrenia began to increase, but the overall trend fluctuated greatly. The literature is mostly from the medical field. In 15 studies, the practitioners of art therapy were psychiatrists, accounting for 41.60% of the total. There were 33 studies whose average age was between 31 and 50 years old, accounting for 91.70% of the total. There were 25 studies whose average course of disease was over 5 years, accounting for about 70% of the total. The research sample group with a total number of more than 100 people and the experimental group with about 30 people were the most set up, each with 11 papers, accounting for 30.60% of the total. All intervention types are group art therapy programs. Intervention methods In 35 studies, patients were provided with art therapy on the basis of maintaining routine psychiatric care and drug therapy, accounting for 97.22% of the total. There were 35 studies designed with experimental group and control group, accounting for 97.22% of the total. The types of art activities are mainly based on drawing and color painting, accounting for about 93.05% of the total. In 31 studies (86.10%), art therapy activities were divided into stages. The study included 24 dependent variables in seven areas, including symptoms, self, society, and action. The number of sessions was concentrated within the interval of 11 to 30 cycles, with 19 studies accounting for 52.80% of the total. The duration of a single session was 90 to 120 minutes, with 21 studies accounting for 58.30% of the total. The experimental Settings were all in professional treatment institutions. Results The measurement included 32 measuring tools such as PANSS scale and WCST test. The effect verification methods all used the t-test method to test whether the difference between the two samples was significant. Without excluding routine psychiatric rehabilitation care and medication, Art therapy in patients with negative symptoms of schizophrenia, general pathological symptoms, social function defect and social adaptation ability, social skills, cognitive function, self-efficacy, self-esteem, life quality, life satisfaction, mental toughness, self-concept, anxiety and depression emotion, excitement behavior, behavior disorders, and fine motor ability is basic it is superior to that in control group, And there are significant differences between them. However, the improvement effect of positive symptoms, psychotic symptoms and executive ability was general, especially the improvement of positive symptoms was basically ineffective. To sum up, through systematic literature review, this study discussed the current research trend of art therapy in Chinese patients with schizophrenia, and investigated whether art therapy has a significant effect on patients with schizophrenia. Through systematic literature review, this paper analyzes this research and puts forward some new suggestions, which is of great significance. It is hoped that through this research in the future, more effective art treatment programs will be explored to help schizophrenic patients return to society earlier and return to normal life.
