In this study, 30 male and female students from N University located in Gwangju Metropolitan City were accompanied by a vibrating foam roller to find out what effect the squat exercise has on the change in leg muscle activity and balance. The purpose of this study was to provide basic data for clinical intervention to improve body balance. Divided into an experimental group with a vibrating foam roller and a control group with a non-vibrating foam roller, squat exercises were performed for a total of 6 weeks, 3 times a week, 20 times per session, 3 sets. For the measurement of leg muscle activity, the maximum voluntary isometric contraction of the vastus medialis, vastus lateralis, and biceps femoris on both sides was measured using a wireless surface electromyography device and static balance and dynamic balance were measured using a balance measurement device. For comparison between groups, an independent t-test was used, and for comparison between groups by time, two way repeated ANOVA was performed, and the following results were obtained. First, there was a significant difference in the activity of the vastus medialis muscle on both sides and the vastus lateralis muscle on the right between the two groups. Second, there was a significant difference in the balance change between the two groups. Third, there was a significant difference in the muscle activity of the vastus medialis muscle on both sides and the vastus lateralis lateralis on both sides according to the two groups. Fourth, there was a significant difference in both groups' changes in balance by period.
Since this study was conducted with normal university students, the possibility of generalization remains a limitation in application to patients. In future studies, it is thought that continuous research with patients should be conducted.
