Enactment of the Environmental Health Act led to the establishment and implementation of a comprehensive environmental health plan. As a part of this plan, environmental improvement systems have been established in areas with poor environmental health. Coal-fired power plant industrial complexes are representative areas with poor environmental health, ranking high as a source of air pollutant emissions in 2019. However, a system for environmental improvement has not been established because data on the current status of environmental pollution are insufficient. Therefore, we established and provided basic data useful for establishing a comprehensive environmental health plan targeting coal-fired power industrial areas. We determined the qualitative and quantitative distribution of hazardous air chemicals in coal-fired power plant industrial complexes by performing a systematic literature review and meta-analysis. In the systematic literature review, we selected study outcomes that met the inclusion criteria after searching for and identifying studies related to harmful chemicals in the air near coal-fired power plant industrial complexes overseas and published in major academic journals. In addition, we compared and analyzed the results of qualitative and quantitative studies of PM2.5 and hazardous chemicals in the atmosphere of domestic industrial complexes and compared these results with those from domestic thermal power generation industrial complexes. The 24 studies involving qualitative analysis of harmful atmospheric chemicals from coal-fired power plants focused on the following topics: PM2.5(79%), gaseous matter(29%), carbon(17%), ions(8%), elements(25%), PAHs(21%), and others(8%). The pooled average concentrations of hazardous chemicals from nine previous studies were analyzed using meta-analysis and showed the following results: PM2.5 13.25µg/m3, OC 3.28µg/m3, EC 0.93µg/m3, Cl- 2.10µg/m3, NO3- 1.16µg/m3, SO42- 2.10µg/m3, NH4+ 0.53µg/m3, K+ 0.16µg/m3, Na+ 0.57µg/m3, Ca2+ 0.46µg/m3, Mg2+ 0.11µg/m3, Al 0.2409µg/m3, Cr 0.1506µg/m3, Cu 0.0076µg/m3, Fe 0.2811µg/m3, Mn 0.0048µg/m3, Ni 0.0066µg/m3, Pb 0.2553µg/m3, Ti 0.0111µg/m3, and Zn 3.0713µg/m3. The concentrations of PM2.5, OC, NO3-, SO42-, K+, NH4+, Al, Cu, Mn, and Ti were high in domestic coal-fired power plant industrial complexes, whereas concentrations of EC, Cl-, Ca2+, Na+, Cr, Fe, Ni, Pb, and Zn were low.
