This study was conducted with the purpose of confirming through experiments whether the public interest of subway platform screen door advertising message types affects advertising attitudes, brand attitudes, and purchase intentions, and presenting directions for constructing subway advertising media and writing advertising messages in practice in the future..The study was conducted in two rounds. The primary study subjects were limited to residents of Seoul, Incheon, and Gyeonggi Province. An online survey was conducted with a structured questionnaire to 303 consumers who use the subway at least once a week. The degree of public awareness of the subway was verified by comparing it with other means of transportation. In addition, it was verified what elements of public transportation service consumers demand when using the subway. As a result of the verification of Research Question 1, the subway was confirmed to be the most public means of transportation for subway users compared to other means of public transportation such as buses, taxis, and trains. As a result of the verification of research question 2, punctuality was the highest among public transportation service elements required in the subway. However, in the perception of publicity of screen doors, safety and environment were the highest. As a result of the verification of research question 3, the degree of contact of the screen door was the highest among advertisements inside train cars and stations. The degree of interest in subway advertisements showed a positive recognition level both inside trains and station facilities. As a result of the verification of research question 4, the level of avoidance by type in subway advertisements was found to be lower in poster-type print advertisements. In addition, it was confirmed that the avoidance level of the screen door was the lowest among the printing types. In the second study, based on the results of the first study, subway screen door advertisements were selected as test subjects.Advertising stimulants were produced with three message types: commercial message, safety message, and environmental message.Actual advertising stimulants were posted in four experimental histories and field surveys were conducted. As for the four stations, the Guro Digital Complex area on Line 2, Dangsan Station, Yeouido Station on Line 5, and Yeongdeungpo Market area were selected in consideration of station location and station congestion. As advertisement stimuli, electric vehicles, a high-involvement product, and beverages, a low-involvement product, were selected as virtual brands. In the same advertisement design for each brand, only the advertisement message was produced with three phrases.A total of 24 advertisement stimuli of 4 history, 2 brands, and 3 advertisement messages were posted for 16 days from February 16, 2023 to March 2, 2023.A field survey was conducted on a total of 240 people, 10 for each advertisement stimulant, using a structured questionnaire. As a result of testing Hypothesis 1, the safety-related message was commercially available in all four stations: a crowded underground station with a large floating population, a busy underground station with a small floating population, a crowded underground station with a large floating population, and a quiet underground station with a small floating population. The hypothesis that advertising attitude, brand attitude, and purchase intention would be more positive than message was rejected. On the other hand, the hypothesis that environment-related messages would be more positive toward advertisement attitude than commerce-related messages was rejected in crowded ground stations with large floating population. The interaction effect was confirmed by being supported in the quiet ground station with low floating population, the crowded underground station with high floating population, and the quiet underground station with low floating population. The hypothesis that environment-related messages would be more positive on brand attitude than commerce-related messages was rejected in crowded above-ground stations with high foot traffic and crowded underground stations with high foot traffic. The interaction effect was confirmed by being supported in the quiet ground station with low floating population and the quiet underground station with low floating population. The hypothesis that environment-related messages would be more positive for purchase intention than commerce-related messages was rejected for crowded underground stations with high floating population and crowded underground stations with low floating population. The crowded ground station with a large floating population was supported, and the interaction effect was confirmed. In addition, it was confirmed that environment-related messages had an interaction effect even when product involvement was included as a covariate. As a result of the study, it was confirmed that there was no difference in the effect of commerce-related messages and safety-related messages, and it was found that environment-related messages were more positive toward advertising attitudes than commercial messages regardless of the degree of congestion in the underground station. In addition, it was confirmed that environmental messages had a more positive effect on brand attitude than commercial messages only in quiet stations with a small floating population. Finally, in the quiet history of the earth, it was confirmed that commercial messages were more positive on advertising attitudes, brand attitudes, and purchase intentions than environmental messages. The academic significance of this study is as follows.First, it has been proven that consumers recognize the subway as the most public means of public transportation.Among the services required in public transportation, punctuality and safety were found to be high, but safety and environmental quality were the highest in screen door expectation recognition.Second, it was proved that the message type of the screen door advertisement has a certain effect on the advertising effect. In particular, it became a study that supports the phenomenon that screen door advertisements are being conducted centering on commercial messages in practice. The necessity of follow-up research to verify the creative effect of commercial messages is suggested in the future.A limitation of the study is that the study was conducted for a short period of time due to field conditions. Also, the fact that the number of survey samples for each advertisement stimulant was somewhat small remains a limitation. If the number of survey samples is increased in future studies, it is expected that more meaningful research results will be derived.Despite these limitations, it can be meaningful that it was the first field experiment as a subway advertisement study. In addition, as a study that verified the advertising message effect according to station location and station congestion, it is significant in that it presented a practical direction for subway advertisement research as well as subway screen doors.
