In this study, Li doped CuO photoelectrode was fabricated to improve the poor photoelectrochemical properties of bare CuO photoelectrode. The fabrication of Li doped CuO photoelectrode was optimized by varying the Li doping concentration, annealing temperature, spin coating deposition cycle. It was found that the Li doped CuO photoelectrode exhibits a porous surface, unlike the bare CuO photoelectrode. It was also found that the energy band gap was lowered and the crystallinity was improved upon Li doping. From the results of Li doping concentration experiments and annealing temperature experiments, it was found that Li 2 at% and annealing temperature of 500℃ had the best photocurrent density values. Subsequently, by conducting the experiment of changing the spin coating deposition cycle, it was found that the photo absorption, energy bandgap, crystallinity, and electrical properties of the photoelectrode changed according to the change of the film thickness. In particular, we found that the sample with 4 spin coating cycles had the lowest charge transfer resistance and the highest flat-band potential value. As a result, a photocurrent density of -1.68 mA/cm2 was obtained from the Li doped CuO photoelectrode under the conditions of Li 2at%, annealing temperature of 500 °C, and 4 spin coating cycles, which is 28% higher than that of the bare CuO photoelectrode.
