The purpose of this study was to examine the differences in balance ability among squat beginners based on exercise intensity. A total of 15 adult males in their 20s, who were residents of B City, without prior weight training experience or with less than 3 months of experience, were recruited as participants for this research. To achieve the objectives of the study, low-intensity exercise was set at 50% of their 1-RM, and high-intensity exercise was set at 80% of their 1-RM. This study aimed to investigate the differences in balance ability among squat beginners by analyzing COP variables measured using Gaitviewpro software. The COP variables, including Envelope area, Rectangle, Root Mean Square, Total Length from COP, Total Length, and Sway Velocity, were measured before exercise, after low-intensity exercise, and after high-intensity exercise. Data were collected through five repeated measurements, and the mean and standard deviation were calculated. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS for Windows version 26.0, employing one-way repeated measure ANOVA to compare the differences in COP variables according to exercise intensity. Bonferroni post-hoc tests were conducted for significant findings. The significance level was set at α = 0.05 for each variable. The results of the balance difference during both feet support among squat beginners, based on the intensity of squat exercise, showed a significant difference only in Total Length from COP. In contrast, during right/left foot support, all six variables showed statistically significant differences in balance ability. The results were as follows. First, the results showed that there was no significant difference in balance ability among squat beginners during both feet support based on the intensity of squat exercise, except for significant differences in Total Length from COP. Second, during right/left foot support, there were no significant differences in balance ability after low-intensity exercise at 50% of 1-RM. However, after high-intensity exercise at 80% of 1-RM, all six variables showed significant differences in balance ability. Based on these results, it can be inferred that high-intensity exercise at 80% of 1-RM poses a potential risk of balance impairment and injury for squat beginners. Therefore, it is appropriate to recommend low-intensity exercise at 50% of 1-RM to enhance balance ability in this population.
