Solid-state polymeric gel electrolytes, such as ionogels, consisting of copolymer gelators and ionic liquids (ILs), present a promising avenue for future wearable platforms. These materials offer advantages such as non-volatility, mechanical robustness, high ionic conductivity, and applicability in various printing techniques. Additionally, integrating functional moieties into copolymer gelators allows for the incorporation of additional functionalities. Therefore, this thesis investigates the relationship between the molecular configuration of copolymer gelators and the resulting characterization of the gels. The thesis is structured into three main chapters. Chapter 1 focuses on the development of highly transparent and ultra-stretchable ionic sensors (ionoskins) using PMMA-r-PBA copolymer as a gelator. The molecular design involves incorporating IL-insoluble components with a low glass transition temperature to create a straightforward "ionic" strain sensory platform. In Chapter 2, self-healable ionic thermoelectric generators (TEGs) are introduced, based on a ZI copolymer and liquid metal-based electrodes. The strategic positioning of ions enhances ionic mobilities, leading to increased power factors for both p-type and n-type TEGs. The water-absorbing characteristics of the ZI copolymer contribute to quick charge relaxation times, presenting a breakthrough in high-performance ionic TEGs. Chapter 3 introduces a 1-min, room temperature self-healing ionogel, attributed to the dynamic formation of ion clusters between the charged moieties in copolymers and ionic liquids. With exceptional self-healing ability, remarkable stretchability, long-term stability, and ease of reshaping, this technology holds promise for reconfigurable and deformable light-emitting displays. The dissertation explores the incorporation of ionogels into electrochemical systems, optimizing performance, and expanding applications for future wearable electronic platforms, providing valuable insights for the molecular designing strategy and their perspectives in the related fields.
