The impact of sensory exhibition experiences on visitor immersion and satisfaction - Focus on ‘teamLab: LIFE원문보기

This study aims to investigate the impact of immersive "sensory exhibition experiences" with nature as a motif in interactive New Media Art exhibitions on the immersion and satisfaction of viewers. In the theoretical discussion, we explore the concept and types of sensory exhibition experiences, establish elements of exhibition immersion by researching the sensory characteristics and significance of immersive exhibitions compared to general sensory experiences, and define exhibitions that integrate three or more senses as "sensory exhibition experiences." To achieve this, we analyze "teamLab: LIFE" as a case study based on the criteria for analyzing immersive experiential exhibitions. Additionally, drawing on previous studies on visitor satisfaction, six hypotheses regarding the influence of sensory exhibition experiences on immersion and satisfaction were formulated. H1: "Sensory exhibition experiences" will have a greater impact on immersion compared to "ordinary exhibitions." H2: "Sensory exhibition experiences with a natural motif" will have a greater impact on immersion than interest in nature. H3: Adding taste and smell experiences to "sensory exhibition experiences" will increase visitor satisfaction. H4: Women's satisfaction (return visits) with sensory exhibition experiences will be higher than that of men. H5: There will be differences in sensory exhibition experiences based on age. H6: Experiencing sensory exhibitions will influence immersion based on interest in nature. In the research methodology, a quantitative survey was conducted targeting visitors of the immersive sensory experience exhibition, "teamLab: LIFE," based on the content organized in the theoretical review. The study included 130 exhibition attendees, and an online exit survey was carried out, resulting in the extraction of a sample of 115 respondents. Statistical analyses, including t-tests, one-way ANOVA (analysis of variance), and linear regression, were performed using SPSS and R Studio after coding the data. The results of hypothesis testing are as follows: First, the hypothesis was accepted, indicating that sensory experience (integration) has a greater impact on immersion compared to visual, auditory, and tactile senses. Second, the hypothesis was accepted, suggesting that sensory experience (integration) has a more significant impact on immersion. Third, the hypothesis regarding the addition of taste and smell experiences to "sensory exhibition experiences" partially supported, indicating that it could contribute to increased visitor satisfaction. Fourth, the hypothesis was rejected, indicating that the exhibition provides a sensory experience that is equally appealing to both genders. Fifth, the hypothesis was rejected, suggesting that the exhibition caters to participants of all age groups, from teenagers to those aged 50 and above. Sixth, the hypothesis was accepted, revealing that immersion is not influenced by the level of interest in nature. Through this study, it was confirmed that the key factor influencing visitor satisfaction is the "sensory experience." To further understand sensory exhibition experiences, future steps involve segmenting visitors and researching the impact of sensory differences based on cultural backgrounds. This information not only serves as foundational data for research but also suggests elements for the development of visitor return and potential audience expansion.
