본 연구는 청소년 466명을 대상으로 2008년 5월부터 6월 까지 구조화된 설문지를 이용하여 정신건강실태를 파악하여, 청소년의 정신건강증진을 위한 기초 자료를 제공하는데 목적이 있다. 성별에서 평균 차이검증을 실시한 결과, 우울/불안, 사고의 문제, 주의집중 문제, 공격성, 내재화, 총 문제행동에서 여학생이 남학생보다 유의하게 더 높은 점수를 보였으며, 학년에 따라서는 총 사회능력에서 고등학생이 중학생보다 유의하게 더 낮은 점수를 보였다. 그리고 문제행동에서는 위축에서 고등학생이 중학생보다 유의하게 더 높은 점수를 보여주었고, 사고의 문제, 공격성에서는 중학생이 고등학생 보다 유의하게 더 높은 점수를 나타냈다. 그리고 임상군의 분포는 총 사회능력에서 32.6%, 총 문제행동에서 8.6%를 나타냈으며, 문제행동별 임상군의 분포 순위는 주의집중문제, 우울/불안, 공격성, 외현화 문제, 내현화문제, 사회적 미성숙 등의 순으로 나타났다. 그리고 성별에 따른 정상군과 임상군의 차이검증에서는 사회성, 우울/불안, 주의집중 문제, 내재화, 외현화에서 남학생보다 여학생이 더 많은 임상군의 분포를 보이며 유의한 차이를, 학년에 따른 정상군과 임상군의 차이검증에서는 학업수행에서 중학생보다 고등학생이 더 많은 임상분포를 보이며 유의한 차이를 나타냈다. 이상의 연구결과 일 지역사회 청소년 정신건강 실태는 남학생보다는 여학생이 그리고 고등학교 1학년 보다는 중학교 1학년이 더 많은 정신건강의 문제를 가지고 있는 결과를 보여주었다. 그러므로 여학생과 중학교 1학년을 대상으로 한 정신건강 증진 및 예방 접근이 무엇보다도 우선되어야한다. 또한 문제행동에서 많은 임상분포를 보인 주의집중, 우울/불안, 공격성 문제를 해결 하고 예방하기 위한 중재 프로그램 개발이 요구된다.
